Welcome to Mrs. Nelesen's Social Studies/Language Arts Page

The American Adventure - A Night at the Museum Continues Complete the writing and prepare the Oral Presentation

We are getting ever closer to the end. Today was our peer-editing session and it was very successful for the great majority of students. Great job on preparing for this helpful experience. Students now have final editing notes and suggestions to refer to as they polish their paper for the final draft. Please remember that scholarly writing neatly is done in ink and on one side of the paper. If it is word processed, it is done in plain black font not larger than 14 pt. in size. It does not include pictures or graphics, although occasionally a chart is appropriate. Students also need the complete works cited page formatted as it is modeled on the Research Outline handout. The last step is to develop the presentation of their findings. This is when students should show their creativity and showmanship and include pictures, props, costumes and the like. Details  are below under "Dates to Remember."

Expect to see students polishing their reports.   I remain willing to work individually with students should they need my support. Progress dates are below. Thanks for all your hard work - the end is in sight!

Extra copies of the many handouts that help with the research process are available on the Social Studies and Language Arts "Skills and Tools" link as well as on the downloads link above.

Dates to remember:

Thursday, January 26, completed essay due including the work's cited page as described on the bottom of the outline handout
Tuesday, January 31, in class presentations, one to two minutes long, summarizing research findings. Visual aid, props, costumes, and the like should be used to creatively share the findings of their research.
Tuesday, February 7 & 9, Final family presentations at Student-led Conferences
