Welcome to Biology! As we are out of school for the snow, this does not change the date of the Biology HSA and now puts the biology class more than a week behind which is about 2 units! These 2 units are heavily tested on the HSA and I want to make sure that the students are well prepared! *Draw a model of the phases of meiosis. Write a caption for each of the phases. (15 points) *Journal write- explain how and why the chromosome # is reduced by 1/2. (5 points) *Compare mitosis and meiosis with a t-chart or venn diagram. (10 points) *Read page. 146 and explain the importance of meiosis and genetic variation (5 points) *go to www.scilinks.org. Log in and register as a student. Use the keyword HX4093 Topic: Genetic Variation and explore. *Read about the diploid life cycle of humans on page. 153 and write a summary. (5 points) *Look on page. 154, figure 8 and write a caption to explain what is happening to the organism in the diagram. (5 points) *BONUS- calculate how many chromosomes would be in body cells of a human being after four generations of sexual reproduction if reduction division does not occur. (5 points) Anything turned in when we return on Tuesday/Wednesday will be extra credit- points given above. Also, the students will have all of their vocabulary words due on index cards defined and BCR 3 and 4 due!! |
