Welcome to the Mrs. Bowers Strings & Guitar page. You will find weekly updates on concerts, practice material and general information about your students class. 6th Grade Beginning Strings All 6th grade students should now have an instrument. But, there are still a few students who need to get their book for class Artistry in Strings - Book 1. Right now we have been working on playing HARMONICS and starting to put our fingers on the fingerboard. They will need to practice 90 minutes over the Holiday break and it will be due upon return to school. Keep in mind that a 6th grade concert will be coming up on January 29, 2009 @ 6:30PM in the FLMS gym. 6th Grade Intermediate Strings This group is starting to really play well together. But, same as the other group, a few students still need their books Artistry in Strings - Book I. This group is working on playing as an ensemble and being able to read our notes quickly. This group will also be having a concert on January 29, 2009 @ 6:30PM in the FLMS gym. All of the strings groups have started practice charts. They must complete 90 minutes for 6th grade, 120 for 7th and 130 for 8th. Each group must continue practicing, even when they are in PE. I always have practice chart forms in my classroom, but they may always write their practice time on a sheet of paper as well. 8th & 7th Grade Guitar These two groups are actually preparing to play on December 18 @ 6:30 for a Holiday program sponsored by the administration. The guitarists were asked to play something and we have been preparing "Up On the Housetop" and "Jolly Old St. Nicholas". I would love for all the guitar students to attend and participate. It will be wonderful as it will be a group played effort between the 2 grade levels. 7th & 8th Grade Strings Last night the 7th and 8th grade strings groups had a concert with the 7th & 8th grade band and the 8th grade chorus. The concert went smoothly and very well. All groups performed well and everyone should be proud of their efforts. But, this it the first time in a few years I can actually say the orchestra groups had 100% attendance at last nights concert. WAY TO GO!!!! All 7th & 8th grade students are NOT required to practice over the break, but they may turn in up to 3 extra credit practice charts upon return from break. Have a wonderful holiday and see you in 2009!!! Mrs. Bowers |
