                           Week of November 2nd, 2009

This has been an exciting with all of the children anticipating the early release day on Thursday, the holiday for them on Friday and Halloween!  Still, in all of the excitement of the week, we learned a lot.  This year our school has been excited about a new program called Children's Progress Assessment, in which students are assessed on the skills they know-if they are at expectation, above expectation, or below, and there is a plan to help the children reach their goals through various center skills.  This week we have worked on many of these skills from clapping out syllables, to stories using synonyms and antonyms, to phonic skills, etc.

In math we have continued working with graphs.  The children particularly enjoyed the candy graphing!

In writing we have completed our stories about our field trip to Horizons.  The stories are precious!  I have placed them on our hallway board along with pictures that I made along the way.  If you get a chance when you are here for your report card conference, please take a look at them, especially your child's story.  They are so proud of them.

Almost everyone met their reading goals for this quarter and will receive their reward!  It is hard to believe that this week we will be entering the second quarter of school!

           Homework for next week includes:

Monday-write spelling words in agenda.  We are now reading for 20 minutes each night.  Please sign agendas nightly and reading logs.
