Greetings from the Vocal Music Department of CGMS!

Our annual talent show was held on Monday night, February 20, 7:00 PM at Corriher-Lipe Middle School auditorium.  All choruses performed one number for the show, followed by 12 different acts ranging from guitar to piano to dance and vocals. Winners were:  1st place:  Jacob Cheeseman;  2nd place:  Kaleb Vanhoy;  3rd place:  Mollie Goss and Madyson Jenkins; Honorable Mention:  Abygail Rohletter.

Thanks to all who attended, donated time and money, and to Sharon Wooten and Corriher-Lipe Middle School for helping make our show such a wonderful success.

All classes are continue working hard on learning how to read music and how to sing with correct posture and diaphragmatic breathing.  During the month of February, we will also concentrate on music from Africa and how it led to spirituals, American blues, jazz and rock.

6th Graders are currently writing an essay on what they want to be when they grow up. This is in conjunction with our music unit's theme:  "Your Life Is Now."  There should be a first paragraph telling what their dream is and three reasons why.  The second paragraph should include at least three sentences, and give more information about the first reason.  The third paragraph should support the second reason, and the fourth paragraph, the third and final reason.  The final paragraph, number five, should summarize the paper, and tell how they hope to accomplish their goal.  Final drafts will be typed in Lab A on February 27.

The Rowan County Middle School Honors Chorus will present their concert on Friday, March 9, at 6:30 PM in the Corriher-Lipe Middle School Auditorium.  Admisson is free. Students representing our school include the following:  Sopranos:  Madelyn Daniel, Paige Manning, Taylor Miller, and Tabitha Smith;  Altos:  Yoselin Delgado, Janssen Keiger, Peyton Rodgers, Abygail Rohletter, and Kelly Short;  Baritones: Hunter Cates, Brian Denado, Donovan Hopewell, Nathan Nguyen, and Justin Rippey.

Our spring concert will be held at The Event Center on Webb Road on May 10.  Plan now to attend!

8th grade choruses from both semesters this year will go to Carowinds to sing in the annual Music Festival on Friday, May 18.  Ticket order forms and payment is due by Monday, March 26.

To ALL my former students:  good luck in high school, college, or in "life!"  Please visit whenever you can. Never give up on your dreams.  Pursue excellence in everything you do, and always,  ALWAYS, keep a song in your heart. Make this world a little better place for your having been here!
