![]() Welcome to the AIG Web Page! My classroom is located in the POD and the room number is 608. You are welcome to visit your child's class during the school day. The school's number is 704-278-2131 and my extension is 200. This year's schedule will be: 5th grade AIG--8:00-10:10 daily. Students will receive math and reading instruction. 4th grade AIG-- 10:15-12:25 daily. Students will receive daily reading and math instruction. 3rd grade Thinking Skills--30 minutes weekly on Wednesdays K-2 Nurturing--30 minutes monthly sign up times Students can view curriculum content for each week on this site, and check on upcoming events. Homework is directly related to the instruction and is occasionally graded. The grading scale for the county is as follows: A—93-100 B—85-92 C—77-84 D—70-76 F—Below 70 Homework: Math homework is given daily, except for Fridays. Reading homework is usually a long term assignment and the student has more than one day to complete it. If homework is turned in late, the student is given silent lunch for that day. If a graded assignment is turned in late, points are deducted for each day the assignment is late. Discipline: 1st Incident: Warning 2nd Incident: Note sent home in planner 3rd Incident: Parent phone call 4th Incident: Citation sent to the principal Positive Reinforcement: Big Bucks earned for great thinking and good citizenship can be spent at the quarterly Big Buck store. Course Content for the Second Semester Fourth Grade—Math Use of Singapore Math books and other resources Goals Perimeter and Area Geometric Properties Graphs, Probability and Data Analysis Algebra Projects—Students will develop learning centers for each of the above goals. Fifth Grade—Math Use of Singapore Math books and other resources Goals Measurement Geometry Graphs and Data Analysis Algebra Projects—Students will develop learning centers for each of the above goals. Fourth and Fifth Grade Reading Fourth Grade Novels: A Wrinkle in Time and Old Yeller Fifth Grade Novels: Shades of Gray and Chasing Vermeer Socratic Method—Seminars (to distinguish different genre and to delve deeper into a literary work) Genre: Nonfiction in newspapers and magazines Journals and diaries Folktales—Porquoi tales (4th grade) Biographies and autobiographies Myths (5th grade) Skills covered: Predictions Cause and Effect Compare and Contrast Projects: Projects including technology will be completed relating to the novels read. The end-of-year project will be an independent study relating to the broad topic of ecology with a focus on our theme of relationships.
