With third, fourth, and fifth graders at Cleveland taking the N.C. End of Grade Tests (EOG’s) in May parents may have some general questions. Following is some basic testing information: These standardized tests are important, because they help measure the student’s progress. Their results are compared with those of kids at the same level statewide. Schools also use the test scores to see what area of the curriculum may need to be strengthened. These tests cover different subject areas. Parents can share these test taking tips with children:
Pay careful attention to directions.
Spend about the same amount of time on each question.
Check the answer sheet and make sure the answers match the right questions.
Other ways that parents can help students to prepare for standardized tests are by seeing that they get a good night’s sleep the night before and a healthy breakfast on test days too. Most important of all, of course, is for parents to make sure their children are present and on time for school on test days. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support during the EOG testing process.
Since the EOG process as a whole represents the culmination of the entire school year for everyone, successful completion of these tests is a reward for work well done. This is an accomplishment that would be impossible without much effort and perseverance on the part of students, staff, and parents. By definition perseverance is being persistent in the pursuit of worthy objectives in spite of difficulty, opposition or discouragement. In essence perseverance means trying your best and exhibiting patience, while persisting at a task. Perseverance is taking one step at a time and continuing something in the face of difficulties without letting doubts stop you from trying. Most importantly it is a commitment to something or someone. We demonstrate perseverance when we try again if confronted with delays, mistakes or failures and stick to our purpose or aim until we complete the task. I commend everyone’s dedication and perseverance throughout this year, and now I want to wish all a relaxing and enjoyable summer break from school!
