MEMBERS OF CONGRESS PLAY 5 MAJOR ROLES… They are:
Non Legislative POWERS…. Constitutional Amendments –must have a 2/3 vote in eachhouse. In case of a tie in the electoral college, the house ofrepresentatives must decide..using the electoral process..(by state)
POWERS… Impeachment- the House can bring charges with amajority vote….but the Senate must have a 2/3 vote to remove from office. Treaties – Senate must confirm Presidentialtreaty
LEADERSHIP IN BOTH HOUSES SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE – the presiding officerin the House of Representatives, and is in charge of running debate and votingon the House Floor. Is selected by his fellow members..and depends on themajority party.
PRESIDENT OF THESENATE – AKA = The Vice President Does not normally run the everyday procedures in theSenate, only there to break a tie vote (50/50)
