Materials List for Ms. Byrum's History Classes

 

  1. A duotang, notebook, or section of a larger notebook for all instructional materials handed out in class.

You must have all of these instructional handouts with you in class everyday!

 

  1. A notebook or section of a larger notebook (with pockets) for only history class assignments.

 

  1. Blue or Black ink pens, highlighters, red pens or pencils, black or other dark color Sharpie markers (or a similar style).

 

  1. College rule notebook paper.

 

  1. Small magnifying glass.

 

  1. Small stapler and staples.

 

  1.  Pocket dictionary.

 

  1. Organizer or small calendar.

 

  1. Brown paper grocery bag (for a book cover).  Do Not use the cloth, stretch covers!  They are not big enough and damage the books.

 

  1. Post Its.

 

 

 

AP European Optional Reading Assignment

All work must be handwritten in cursive.

 

All Optional Reading Assignments must include the following information:

1.      Name        

2.      Bibliography

                        Title of Book

                        Author

                        Translator (if any)

                        Publisher

                        Place Published (city, county if not the US)

                        Year

3.      Year the original work was written.

 

Respond to the following questions:

(Short answers)

1. What was the subject or main objective of the book?

2. About how long did it take you to read this?

            3. How difficult did you find this book to read or understand?

(1 or 2 paragraphs)

            4. Why was it useful to have read this book as a student of European history? 

(Long answers, 1 to 3 pages, 1 page = one side of the paper)

5.  In a summary format explain what was learned by reading this book.  Use direct quotes (statements) from the book to support your explanation. Include the page number in the book the quotes are found on.  Do not list separately; they must be part of your summary!

 

Example: Ashurbanipal built the Assyrian Empire by using his skills as a great warrior to conquer most of the Middle East, “The great Assyrian warrior king, Ashurbanipal, conquered the kingdoms of the ancient Middle East” (page 52).
