Welcome to the Zoo!

What's Happening?

Welcome to Kindergarten! We are very excited to have your student in our class and get to work with your family this year! Its going to be a busy year with a lot of learning going on. We have had a great start and are getting right down to buisness. Please be sure to read with your student each night and review the letters and numbers that will be coming home. We are working on names right now and all the practice they can get at home is a big help! Let us know if you have any questions!  

Writing

In writing we will be starting off the year by working on telling a story through pictures. You can practice with your child by asking them to draw you a picture of a specific event. Make sure they look back at their work and add more details! We are also trying to add labels to our picture. All we are looking for now are beginning sounds.

Class Information

The students will be learning and discovering many new things during this school year!  We will be exploring letters and numbers during the year using all of the five senses.  We will be studying a variety of interdisciplinary units during the school year that correspond to an appropriate season or event.  Some of these include:  All about me, apples, autumn, pumpkins, nocturnal animals, the first Thanksgiving, five senses, holidays around the world, winter, bears, Presidents, wind, spring, plants, seeds, farm animals, zoo animals, and ocean life!  We have a busy year ahead of us!  Get ready to LEARN!

Snacks

Please remember to send a healthy snack for your child each day! They all get very hungry in the afternoons and need a little refill!

 Daily Folders

Your child will be bringing home a folder each day. It is important to read and review the contents with your child DAILY. We will communicate with you about your child’s behavior, work habits, classroom events, newsletters, and homework assignments. Use this folder to send us any notes about changes in your child’s transportation,, academics, life, etc.

Lunch

Your child will be issued a lunch number at the beginning of the year. They must memorize this number evertually. Please help them memorize it as soon as possible. All lunch money can be sent in a labeled envelope in your child’s folder and we will see that it is put on your child’s account or you may take it directly to the cafeteria. You can also add money to their account yourself online.

Absent

You must send a note if your child has been absent. It is crucial that your child is at school everyday so that they can continue to grow and learn and reach their potential in all developmental areas!

Transportation

Please send a written note letting us know if your child will be changing their afternoon ride home. We MUST have this to let them go. If it changes during the day, please call the school before 12:00. We can not just take your child's word for it ~ we have to hear from you.
