To my students and parents:

Before you begin to depend on this site too much, I want to make something very clear. I am constantly revising my lesson plans. Each day that goes by, when I am teaching, there is a possibility I will revise my plans for homework or a date for a test. YOU MUST UNDERSTAND that you cannot absolutely, 100% rely on these dates or this information(listed on this site) to be totally and completely accurate. I will try to post information once a week about what we are doing, but during the course of that week, due to many different factors, our schedule may change.

For example, if I find that my students needed more than one day to work on a lesson, I give them an extra day over what was originally planned, and then the quiz or test schedule is moved a bit further into the future. Sometimes we might have a program or assembly at school, perhaps even a fire drill, that takes up class time and I am not able to teach the lesson that day that I wanted to. These type of things will make me adjust my schedule for quizzes and tests. I may even add a homework assignment that was not originally planned.

The bottom line is: you must listen to what I say in class and write down your homework based on what I have on my board. IF YOU USE THIS SITE AS YOUR SOLE SOURCE OF INFORMATION, YOU MIGHT NOT GET THE RIGHT DATES OR OTHER MATERIAL PERTAINING TO QUIZZES, TESTS, AND WHEN HOMEWORK IS DUE.  Even though this site exists, it is still your responsibility to write down your assignments and homework that I have on my board.

DO NOT THROW OUT MATERIALS IN YOUR NOTEBOOK EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE FROM TOPICS WE HAVE ALREADY STUDIED.  We will be referring back to these materials.   ALSO, the CRCT Review questions that we have discussed in class will need to stay in your notebook the entire school year to help prepare us for the CRCT.

******************************************

TESTS AND PROJECTS COMING UP?

Might have a test or quiz that may include all info gone over in class this week. Make sure you keep everything I give you!

Reread your notes each night that we have discussed in that day's lesson.

**********************************

NOTEBOOK TABLE OF CONTENTS

These are things, perhaps sections, that you might like to make in your social studies notebook.  If you find that there is a better way you would like to organize it, use whatever method works for you.

1.Definitions and Vocabulary Words

2.Notes and Facts

3.Handouts and Study Guides

4.additional classwork to study and review at home

5.Notes on any ongoing projects

6.CRCT Prep and Review questions

You need to bring your social studies notebook each day. It must be a notebook that has three brads, or three rings so that you can add handouts and materials to it as I give them to you. A folder with pockets only will not work.

I am happy that you are in my class and I look forward to spending this school year with you!

IB MAGNET STUDENTS:

This is so cool, I cannot wait to tell you about it.

I just found out about www. encyclopedia.com.  Put in your topic.  It will bring up lots of great research AND IT DOES THE CITATION FOR YOU, just copy it exactly.  Remember, we want MLA format.  I say that because sometimes there are two citations, so if it gives you an option, look for the MLA one.

And here is the gold mine...

Use this for anything you have to do for research, not just NHD, not just social studies!

Go to www.gpb.org/education.

Sign on as me, LisaCowart (no spaces)

Password is warriors (just like that, no caps)

Do a search for your topic.

It will bring up VIDEOS, and ARTICLES!!!

Watch the video or the clips. They are great quality.  Read the article or print it off, if you like.

Before you watch the video clip though, scroll down to the bottom.  Click on the tab that says CITATIONS. You can use this source and they do the citation work for you! Just copy exactly what they have.

I bet this will help you a great deal with NHD and any time in the future you ever have to do a report.
