(Scroll down for homework: read about "What are we studying?") Please make note of my work email address which is Cowart.Lisa.C@muscogee.k12.ga.us and write me anytime you have any questions. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME EMAIL THROUGH SCHOOLNOTES. I am seriously thinking of changing websites because I have had a LOT of problems with schoolnotes.com. If it is important to you that you get a hold of me, please email me directly. VERY IMPORTANT NOTE TO NEW STUDENTS AND PARENTS... I will issue each student a textbook (since we are required to) but most of the material that the Georgia Performance Standards lists that I am to teach in sixth grade social studies IS NOT in that textbook. The textbook is only useful for some study of general geography and for us to use the maps. The textbook is not very useful for teaching the Georgia Performance Standards. The State of Georgia dictates precisely what I am to teach in sixth grade social studies and since it is not in the textbook, I will give MANY handouts, printed papers, charts, maps, etc., ALL of which your student needs to keep in a notebook. A spiral notebook will not work. A binder that they are able to add these handouts to, that they will be able to snap into the rings so that they papers do not fall out, is what they need. Their notebook will almost become a substitute for their textbook since that is the only way they will receive the proper content I am to teach since I give it to them after having printed it out. ******************************************* (I am not able to post all things that I use, but I will post as many as I can. Ultimately, it is YOUR responsibility to keep up with your materials in your social studies notebook.) *************************************************************** **************************************************************** Please email me anytime... ***********************************

DO NOT THROW OUT MATERIALS IN YOUR NOTEBOOK EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE FROM TOPICS WE HAVE ALREADY STUDIED. We will be referring back to these materials. ALSO, the CRCT Review questions that we have discussed in class will need to stay in your notebook the entire school year to help prepare us for the CRCT. ******************************************

******************************************** IB MAGNET STUDENTS: This is so cool, I cannot wait to tell you about it. I just found out about www. encyclopedia.com. Put in your topic. It will bring up lots of great research AND IT DOES THE CITATION FOR YOU, just copy it exactly. Remember, we want MLA format. I say that because sometimes there are two citations, so if it gives you an option, look for the MLA one. And here is the gold mine... Use this for anything you have to do for research, not just NHD, not just social studies! Go to www.gpb.org/education. Sign on as me, LisaCowart (no spaces) Password is warriors (just like that, no caps)
Do a search for your topic. It will bring up VIDEOS, and ARTICLES!!! Watch the video or the clips. They are great quality. Read the article or print it off, if you like.
Before you watch the video clip though, scroll down to the bottom. Click on the tab that says CITATIONS. You can use this source and they do the citation work for you! Just copy exactly what they have.
I bet this will help you a great deal with NHD and any time in the future you ever have to do a report. ********************
