Welcome Parents and Students

April 27-May 1, 2009

Nightly Assignments:

Read at least 30 minutes in their individual reading book. To earn a 100 they need to read 27,000 words a week. Please encourage your child to read and ask them questions to check for understanding and comprehension.

Complete any unfinished classroom work.

Students having difficulty with their spelling words need to write them or study them nightly. Four words a night and you can be ready.

ELA and Reading Classes

SPELLING:    Spelling test #30

READING:   

Students will continue to read and write poetry. 

New vocabulary words this week.   
Vocabulary #9

     

  • Word count will be taken every Friday. A student must read 27,000 words to receive a 100. We read 20 minutes in class everyday.
  • Word Wizard words will be due at the end of this last grading period.
  • Students are to find a word that is on the "word wall" that is used somewhere outside of the classroom.  It can be from a book that they are reading,  from a conversation at home, on television, in a song, etc.  They write the sentence in which the word was used, define the word, state where the word was heard, and turn it in.  They will need 12 words due at the end of this last nine weeks.
  • Word Log words.  They should be recording and defining any unknown words that they find while reading or in conversations.  They need to have 25 new words due at the end of this last grading period.

 

  • WRITING:

Students will be writing different types of poetry.

SOCIAL STUDIES:   We will begin chapter 17.
