August 2009

Welcome back!  I am very excited about the upcoming school year.

School begins on August 17th! Open House will be on August 13th at 6:00 P.M.  Please make preparations to attend this informative meeting.  You may bring your child's supplies and books to open house.  Please make sure your child's name is  on all books and supplies. Information concerning school supplies and book list for the 2009/2010 school year may be found on Mrs. Cobin's Schoolnotes page.

Here are the sight words your child will need to practice.  Please put these words on index cards and begin practicing these words with your child each night.  Remember they are sight words and they are not to be sounded out.

the, a you, to, do, mother. father, said, says, of, come

Students will receive a reading log every month.  They are expected to read at least 14 books each month.  Each month will have a differernt theme, subject, genre, or particular author.  The theme for August is Curious George books.  Please read with your child every night and write the titles down. How many Curious George Books have you read for the month of August?  All students are encouraged to get a library card.

I look forward to meeting you during open house on Thursday!
