Hello Everyone!
I have finally managed to overcome my website creating difficulties thanks to my wonderful co-teacher, Mrs. Vavruska! So, you will be hearing from me much more often.
I am so delighted to be teaching your children. The first nine weeks seemed to fly by and I can already see your young ones growing up before my eyes.
Hopefully, they have kept you in the loop on what we're doing in math, science, and social studies.
We have just begun a new Investigation in math called Does It Walk, Crawl, or Swim? A booklet explaining the activites should have arrived with your child in their R.E.D. folder last week. If you have not seen it, please ask your child about it. It is very helpful when doing homework. I'm sure you have noticed that math is taught very differently now than it used to be taught when we were children. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to send a note via your child's agenda book, an email, or a phone message. Additional math practice sheets will be coming home with your child in the coming weeks. To keep your child's math skills sharp it is helpful to include them in daily tasks such as tellling time, counting change, and solving math problems you encounter during the day. This will demonstrate to your child the importance of math in everyday life.
This week, we are working on Science. Your child will be learning about energy: where it comes from and what we use it for. You may have heard the energy song at home already.
Next week, we will be working in Social Studies. The units we will focus on are Places Near and Far and Ways of Living. Discuss with your child the ways that you fit into the community through your job, volunteer work, and hobbies.
For Science and Social Studies the students will gradually receive more homework depending on what is covered in class.
Thank you for your support in making your student as successful as possible this school year.
