There will be a homework packet sent home this week on Monday.  Please monitor your child's work on this packet.  The completed packet is due on Friday.

Drug Awareness Week

Wear a red shirt on Monday with your khakis.

READING: 

The textbook story this week is "The Night of San Juan".  The vocabulary words are forbidden, reluctant, mischievous, hesitation, blared, gossiped, elegant, irresistible. The story/unit is found on pages 204--227.  The leveled readers that will be covered in small groups are:  Nothing is Impossible, Johanna in Jamaica, and Where We Belong .  The students will be doing My Reading Coach in the classroom during small group instruction.  Please ask your child about this and continue to encourage AR reading.  The goals this 2nd nine weeks are :  10 points and 85% comprehension.

GRAMMAR:  We write multiple paragraphs to persuade.  We will follow the instructions found on page 227 in the Treasures book.  We will also work on possessive nouns using worksheets from the reading series and our English textbook.

MATH--  We are beginning Chapter 2 Multiplying Whole Numbers and Decimals found on pages 64--127.  We will be on this chapter for 7--8 weeks.  Please help your child memorize their multiplication facts.  If you are looking for extra practice please look in the textbook on  pages 82,83,98,99,112, and 113.

SCIENCE:  We are working in Unit F, Energy and Motion. A test date for Chapter 1 will be announced for a day  next week.

SOCIAL STUDIES:    We are studying Chapter 2, Native Americans of North America.  The students have been given a packet for this chapter.  The pages in the packet will be assigned for completion. For the students who wish to improve their grade on the Unit One, Chapter One test, they must write the vocabulary words, places, and people from pages 54, 60, and page 66 on index cards.  Number the cards from #1 to #24.  They must study these cards and hopefully learn the definitions. When I check the cards I will ask them randomly 3 definitions.  If they get all three correct, I will raise their grade to a C.  If they get 2 correct, I will raise their grade to a D.  If they do not know the vocabulary words, people, and places, their grade will remain an F. This will be due no later than November 5.
