Vocabulary Improvement Strategy Chart (VIS)

Words/Parts of Speech/Definition/Sentences

Students are to complete a VIS chart using the categories above.

Parts of Speech includes nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, interjections, pronouns and prepositions

Vocabulary/Spelling Words for the Week of 8/23-26/11 1. synonym - a word that means the same or almost the same thing as another word.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31, 2012--Periods 1 and 2 took their spelling/vocabulary test today. Periods 3, 4 & 5 copied Vocabulary Lesson 2 "Synonyms" words and definitions. They are to complete a Vocabulary Improvement Strategy Chart (VIS) due Tuesday, 9/6/11. Test will be next Wednesday.

In class students completed grammar workbook page 1 Nouns. Students were given a piece of tagboard to complete the bookmark activity: design a bookmark about the story "Eleven." Draw pictures that depict what happened in the story on one side. Pictures can be drawn or you can cut out pictures from the magazine, or go on the computer and find pictures to depict what happened. On the other side of the bookmark, write five quotes from the story. The quotations contain the exact words of the speaker. Make sure to separate the speaker from their works. Example: "Not mine," says everybody. "Not me." Punch a hole at the top of the bookmark and place a piece of string/ribbon in it. Grading: Appearance,Neatness, Following the above directions. The size should be about 3 inches wide and about 8 inches long. Make it pretty and colorful.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2011-- Read grammar book pages 72-77 "Narration - Short Stories." Due Date for Bookmarks changed to tomorrow. Make sure the bookmark is done neatly by using a ruler. If you cannot draw, please use cutout from a magazine or use the internet to find pictures. Punch a hole in the top and tie a string/ribbon at the top. For Homework-- Students were given a group number to do research on Ancient Greece. They are to research the category for their group: Group 1 People of Ancient Greece; Group 2 Trade of Ancient Greece; Group 3 Geography of Ancient Greece; Group 4 Government of Ancient Greece; Group 5 Food of Ancient Greece; Group 6 Religion of Ancient Greece. Students can cut and past the important aspects of the category they are researching. This is not a book report.

Students have been consolidating their facts about Ancient Greece with their groups. The groups presented ten important facts from their particular category to the class.
