Welcome to Mrs. Covington's Third Grade Class Website! We're One SHARP Group! **I am aware that some of the words are cut off on the sides of this page at the bottom. I have no idea why or how to fix it, so please disregard!* ![]() Check out the link at the bottom of this page for the latest edition of our classroom newsletter: Mrs. Covington's Friday Notes, as well as our classroom wish list! ![]() Dear Parents and Families, Hello and welcome to this informational website! I update this site very regularly with spelling words, homework assignments, AR and Good Citizen accomplishments, as well as very important curriculum information pertaining to what is happening in our classroom. The third grade is a year of rapid academic growth and can often be a difficult transition for students. There is an increased expectation for academic and social independence, and these skills will be taught and focused on throughout the school year. I promise to do everything in my power to prepare your child for the fourth grade. It is my belief that the school, teacher, parent, and student working together as a team makes this transition smoother and more successful for everyone. If at anytime you have questions or concerns about your child's progress or success in the third grade, please do not hesitate to contact me, as I will not hesitate to contact you. Thank you in advance for your support and encouragement throughout the school year. Sincerely, Mrs. Abby Covington ![]() ![]() Good Citizens September: Politeness- Alyssa and Garrett October: Self-Discipline- Morgan and Sophia November: Respect- Jessica and Matthew December: Responsibility- January: Good Judgement- February: Courage- March: Integrity- April: Kindness- May: Perseverance- ![]() Accelerated Reader Update Congratulations to the following students for their quarterly AR accomplishments! ![]() 50% AR Club 100% AR Club- You have met your goal! 150% AR Club You are a member of the Above and Beyond Club ![]() Homework Information Reading: Monday-Thursday- Read 25 minutes and log Friday- Read 45 minutes and log **Students who meet their AR goal do NOT have to read on weekends!** Math: Students will have math homework 2-3 times a week. Math homework will depend on what we are studying and will reinforce skills we are learning in class. Math facts (addition and multiplication) should be practiced nightly. Spelling: Spelling homework will vary, but will usually consist of a contract that allows students to choose what activities they do to practice spelling words. Contracts will be given on Mondays and all work will be due on Thursday. Please make sure you are taking the time to check over homework and make sure everything is complete BEFORE signing the agenda! ![]() Spelling Words for the Week of: November 16-20 join joy boil noise spoil choice soil point foil voice coil broil Challenge Words: enjoy rejoice **Spelling tests are always on Friday** Some students may have additional words based on their progress on the third grade high frequency word tests. ![]() Curriculum Corner What we're up to this week in class: ![]() Reading Class: This week we will be introduced to a new genre: Trickster Tales. A trickster tale is a folktale. They are from many cultures and countries. We will spend a week reading them and learning about their origins, as well as practice the application of all of the skills we have been working on for the last two weeks! Math Class: We are learning ALL about multiplication! We are spending a lot of time learning about the concept and how it works and spending less time at school practicing facts. Therefore, it will be necessary for each child to study their facts at home. We will start with 0, 1, 2, 5, and 10's. We will begin quizzes on these facts next week. The quizzes will be on Thursday's. Writer's Workshop We will be going on a "gigantic roll" this week in writing. We will use the text of James and the Giant Peach to write a story about a giant object rolling through a funny setting. Social Studies It is back to social studies for us. Our next unit will focus on Citizenship and how we can be effective members of our community! ![]() Class Wish List Small bookshelves books, books, books copy paper or cardstock (white or colored) treats for candy box prizes for prize box (dollar store, happy meal, etc) socks for dry erase board erasers Gift cards to buy classroom supplies: Target, Boarders, Barnes and Noble WalMart, Creative Teaching Aids, Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, etc ![]() Important Links ![]() Free PRINTABLE Multiplication Flash Cards: ![]() |
