What's Happening at Sunset Park

PRESENT & UPCOMING EVENTS

IT'S GOING TO BE A GREAT YEAR !!!

Email PTA questions directly to the PTA President, Mark Jones:

Visit Sunset Park's Website at: http://sunsetpark.dadeschools.net The PTA president is Mark Jones.

START YOUR DAY OFF RIGHT. EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST. GIVE YOURSELF THE ENERGY TO LEARN!

ESOL Students Have Homework

Spelling lists and vocabulary lists are sent home each week. In the meantime, reading for a minimum of 30 minutes each night is assigned daily. Don't let your child tell you that there is no homework. There is! A Reading Log is passed out and collected each week. If your child is not bringing one home, ask him why. Do not accept,"My teacher didn't give me one." Your child (a) should have been paying attention when it was passed out, (b) knows where they are kept, and (c) can always ask me for one. There are no valid excuses. We are trying to teach your child responsibility.

PLEASE check your child's agenda daily and sign it. You may write me a note in the agenda and I will write back. Thank you!!

A Little Bit About Your Teacher

Let me introduce myself. I have been teaching at Sunset Park for 21 years now. Currently I am teaching in the bilingual department teaching ESOL. That means that I teach English to students whose primary language is not English and they are just beginning to learn the English language. My students are English Language Learners, otherwise known as ELLs. I love what I am doing!

I have been married for 29 years and have two grown adult children, ages 27 and 23. I have a Master's degree in Educational Technology Applications from Barry University. I also have a dog named Sadie and a rabbit named BunnyGirl.

WISH LISTWe can always use tissues and copy paper for the xerox machine. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, TO THE PARENTS WHO HAVE DONATED!!!

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third, by experience, which is the bitterest.
--Confucius, philosopher and teacher (c. 551-478 BCE)

Remember... you will learn English faster if you practice speaking it.

Getting off to a good start includes...

In order to do a good job it is important that you are prepared. This means that you are in school, on time, every day. It means that you have with you the materials necessary to complete your work. Please be sure to check your school supplies periodically to see if you need to replenish any supplies. I ask that your pencils be sharpened before you get to class.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

* Read 30 minutes each night, from a book written in English.

* Return all papers sent home to be signed

* Keep your school supplies stocked

Please set your schoolnotes page to notify you of any changes made to the page! This is important in case of any important announcements or last minutes changes to the Home Learning Assignments.

Thank you for a fabulous year!

The best way to communicate with me if you can't come in after school is by email. My email address is canefan@dadeschools.net You may leave messages for me at school

(305) 279-3222 I really want to communicate with you. Any small concern of yours is important to me.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Janet Mayers

EVERYDAY: Read at home for at least 30 minutes.

Occasionally I may need to change the Home Learning Assignment (HLA) given. Changes in our schedule require us to be flexible. This is a good trait to learn for the business world.

Please check out Sunset Park's new Schoolnotes page for important updates and notices.
