HOMEWORK-ANY HOMEWORK WILL BE LISTED ON YOUR CHILD'S ASSIGNMENT SHEET LOCATED AT THE FRONT PAGE IN HIS/HER BINDER. Please check your child's bookbag each evening for any important papers from school as well as looking at your child's assignment sheet that will be given out each Monday. This sheet will let you know of any homework, upcoming tests, or special events.
Typically your child's homework assignment will be:
Monday-Write Spelling Words 3x each & Test each Friday.
Wednesday-Spelling Menu Item of choice
Thursday-Be ready for Spelling Test on Friday.
Math-will sometimes be included as homework. PLEASE REVIEW ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION FACTS TO 18 WITH YOUR CHILD. THIS WAS A 2nd GRADE SKILL AND MANY STUDENTS NEED TO REVIEW THESE FACTS FOR QUICK RECALL. FLASHCARDS ARE GREAT AS WELL AS THE MATH MAGICIAN WEBSITE FOUND ON OUR MCHARG HOME PAGE UNDER STUDENTS AND THEN UNDER MATH.
Additionally:
*It is helpful if your child will review any Social Studies and/or Science notes for 10 minutes each evening. This will allow your child to participate in all classroom discussions and be familiar with all material prior to any graded paper and/or quiz or test. Students should do this on a regular basis even if this is not on assignment sheet.
Helpful Reminders:
Monday- GUIDANCE & MUSIC
Tuesday- COMPUTER & LIBRARY (Please return all books)
Wednesday- ART
Thursday- P.E. (wear tennis shoes)
Friday- P.E. (wear tennis shoes)
(A snack time will be set aside each morning for your child if desired. Please send items in non-breakable containers. Snack time is usually @ 9:30 a.m. daily)
LUNCH-11:55-12:20
*If your child needs to purchase a lunch ticket or bus ticket you must place money or check in an envelope or ziploc with your child's name and amount on it.
Please feel free to visit for lunch at anytime, let your child know the morning of your visit if you would like me to order a lunch for you.
PLANS BELOW ARE FOR THE WEEK OF : May 11-15th
READING-Our story this week is "More Than Anything Else ". The focus this week is "Author's Purpose ". New vocabulary words can be found at the beginning of each story as well as in the glossary at the back of the text.
SPELLING-The focus this week will be ed and ing endings. SEE LIST IN BINDER (PLEASE KEEP LIST IN BINDER UNTIL I COLLECT EACH FRIDAY OR MONDAY AND GIVE OUT NEW LIST). Your child will have a Spelling Test each Friday. A word list will be given out each Monday to students to be kept in their binder to use at home to study during the week. A list of words can also be found in the back of your child's reading book if needed. Your child will sometimes have 1-2 dictation sentences on their test. This week your child will write all words in cursive for the test. Please have your child practice!
GRAMMAR-We will discuss "Prepositions" this week.
SOCIAL STUDIES-Your child is finishing a unit on Economics. PLEASE READ OVER WITH YOUR CHILD EACH NIGHT FOR A FEW MINUTES. Your child will need to review Government notes for a quiz and review "Famous Americans".
SCIENCE-We are working in Chapter 6 in textbook about "Fast and Slow Changes on Land". Look for notes in your child's Science section of his/her binder. Your child has made a booklet of notes for this chapter that should be in binder. IT IS MOST HELPFUL IF AN ADULT WILL REVIEW NOTES FOR A FEW MINUTES EACH EVENING. THIS HELPS REVIEW & PREPARE YOUR CHILD FOR DAILY DISCUSSIONS, DAILY ASSIGNMENTS AND ANY QUIZ OR GRADED PAPER.
MATH-We will work on multiplication of 2-digit numbers and division with remainders.
Third Grade is a fun and exciting year! Please feel free to contact the office and leave a message if you ever need to talk to me or email me at the following address: aholbrook@rcps.org
