![]() Welcome to Mr. Kern's class. If you have comments, questions, or concerns, please write in your child's planner, send a note, or call my voice mail at 704.278.2131 ext 236. Third grade is a challenging year. It culminates with End of Grade (EOG) tests which are demanding. Student focus and attention are required throughout the year. Reading is key to student success. Your child should read Book Adventures books for 30 minutes each night. Every student should strive to attain his or her individual Book Adventures goal. Other notes: Nightly homework should be in planners.
We all knew that EOG's were lurking on the horizon, but now they are here for real. I hope that the efforts of your children and the hard work of the third grade teaching team will result in good test scores. Most of all, I hope that we have imparted a sense of dedication to learning and to thinking . Our goal is to help kids learn and to be problem solvers. It has been an interesting and challenging year for me, my classes, and my family. I am grateful for the prayers, concerns, and patience from you. After much thought I have decided that now is an opportune time to retire. As I return to good health, there is much I can do. Should there arise some unforeseen issues, my being away from work would not be an issue. I have enjoyed my ten years in Cleveland and the associations I've had with kids, faculty, and parents. The community should be pleased with the fine school you have supported . Again, thank you for working with me , and my best to you all. Sincerely, Dave Kern Please work with your children on reading books outside of school. Remember you can go to www.bookadventure.com to take tests at home. If you are unsure of the user name or password, just put a note in your child's agenda, and we'll send it home. Keep encouraging your kids to read so that they will be ready for fourth grade and beyond. Thank you for checking homework and for signing the daily planners.
