Third grade is a challenging year. It culminates with End of Grade (EOG) tests which are demanding. Student focus and attention are required throughout the year.

Reading is key to student success. Your child should read AR books for 30 minutes each night. Every student should strive to attain his or her individual AR goal.

 
Other notes: Nightly homework should be in planners.

  • Please initial planner nightly.
  • PE class is on Monday.
  • Lunch is from 11:40 to 12:05.

We are now into theme 2 in reading,and its title is Celebrating Traditions. There is a balance of realism and fiction in the selections. The unit focus is on tricksters, and the kids seem to enjoy that thoroughly. I must admit, however, that they very much took to our last focus genre, poetry. Our skills include vowel sounds,plurals, 3 letter clusters, contractions, and categorizing.

In science we are wrapping up plants with a three book emphasis on saguaro cactus. Science is being integrated with language arts through comparing/contrasting and categorizing/ classifying.









Keep encouraging your kids to read and make their AR goals for both points and % correct.

AR-goals are revised. The children are making good progress. As of right now, everyone has a positive attitude toward AR..
