  Mrs. Lambert and Mrs. Cross LOVE Second Grade!!! We are so excited about our new class!!!! Math: We have been learning how to add numbers in lots of different ways! We are using counters, our cookie jar, doubles and near doubles! We will also be learning more methods to help us become better adders! Language Arts Please remember to study the 1st quarter high frequency words. We will be having a test on these during October. We have been reading Silly Stories and Comparing Realism with Fantasy. We are also working on short and long vowel patterns in words. Science We have just finished a Unit on Butterflies which included Migration and Life Cycles. We are still waiting to see what happens to our chrysalis! Social Studies Right now we are learning about how to be good citizens in the classroom and the community. We are going to be exploring roles in the community and roles in our school. Students will be interviewing someone in the school this week to learn their role in our school community! Then we will present our information through Comic Life on the computer! The kids will have lots of fun with this!!! Homework Please check over your child's homework. We are finding a lot of careless mistakes and they are having to redo it at school. First In Math The children are very excited about the new website that PTA purchased for us! Everyone has their own password and they can earn stickers while practicing important math skills! If you have access to the internet, Please let your child do this at home! Book Adventure Right now our class is doing our comprehension tests on the website www.bookadventure.com instead of AR here at school due to some problems with AR. Students may take tests at home as well as at school, just write their grade in the log. They can only take the test twice. I can not go in and take a test out of the system like I could with AR. I also have book report sheets, if they are checking out books from the library that are not in the BA system. They can still get credit for reading them at night if they fill out a book report sheet. |
