Welcome to Kindergarten

What a wonderful first day of school.  The children are excited to learn!  Here is some important information that you may need to refer to throughout the year.

SPECIALS SCHEDULE:

          Monday       11:05 – 1:45 P.E.

Tuesday       11:05 – 1:45 Art, 2:35-3:15 Technology

          Wednesday   11:05 – 1:45 Library

          Thursday     11:05 – 1:45 P.E.

          Friday          1:55 – 2:35   Music

Don’t forget sneakers on P.E. days.  I recommend sneakers everyday since we play outside for recess.

Nihongo (Japanese) will be every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after lunch/recess.  Lunch will be each day at 12:15 following recess and we will enjoy a quick snack in the morning.  Please send in a healthy snack as we are promoting HEALTHY KIDS LEARN BETTER!  This includes birthday celebrations.  All snacks MUST BE peanut free this year due to allergies in our classroom.

DAILY/HOMEWORK FOLDER

I have provided your child with a daily folder for carrying papers back and forth to school in.  Please check this folder daily with your child, and help him/her clean out notices and corrected papers.  If you have notes for me, please put them into the daily folder as well, since I ask for any notes first thing in the morning.

DONATIONS

I would greatly appreciate donations of Kleenex and baby wipes.  We go through several colds and allergies, and therefore, a lot of Kleenex are used.  Also, there are often days when a child or two forgets their snack at home.  I like to keep a supply of easily resealable crackers or pretzels on hand, so nobody goes hungry.  Thanks!!!

OUR CLASSROOM RULES

We will follow these four basic rules in the classroom so that all of the students may learn and grow in a positive learning environment.

1.     We will take care of ourselves – respect ourselves.

2.     We will take care of our classmates – respect others.

3.     We will take care of our materials, classroom and school – respect our environment.

4.     We will treat others like we would like to be treated – the Golden Rule.

DISCIPLINE POLICY

Unfortunately there are times when children will choose not to follow our classroom rules.  In these cases, the following consequences, based on the model designed by The Responsive Classroom, will be instituted.

1.     A gentle reminder regarding our class rules will be given.

2.     A second reminder regarding the class rules will be given.

3.     The third time, the child will be asked to go to “Peaceful Place.”  They will remove themselves from the group or activity and think about their behavior.  They may return when they are ready to follow the class rules.

4.     If the behavior occurs again, the child will be sent to “Peaceful Place” again.  During this time the child will write a note home explaining why they needed to be removed from the group.

Mr. Peterson will deal with any severe situations.

BOOK CLUB ORDERS

Throughout the year, I will be sending home book orders from a number of clubs.  These book orders give you the opportunity to purchase reading materials for your child.  Should you decide to order books, please return the order form and a check made out to Scholastic Books by the date indicated.  One check can be made out for all clubs combined.

I will be updating the web links of schoolnotes as the year progresses.

Thank you for visiting my schoolnotes page.  If you need anything you can email me at brau@crec.org or call school at 622-5400.
