Our programs and studies are really off to a smooth start.  Your child will receive a weekly spelling list in his or her agenda to work with and study for the week.  

In Reading/ Communication Skills we are in the Silly Stories theme.  Please ask your child about the characters,setting and silly adventures from the basal. The titles include Dragon Gets By,  Julius,  Mrs. Brown Went to Town and The Surprise from George and Martha. The strategies utilized  include Summarizing, Monitoring and Clarifying,  as well as Predicting and Inferring.

We will continue using the Writer’s Workshop by Lucy Caulkin’s as the core of our writing program.  Students will build through skills learned in first grade with this series.  It will be a familiar format for them.

In Math students will grow through working in centers with manipulatives.  We will study number sense for whole numbers through 999, addition and subtraction strategies well as place value through 100.
