Reading
Fourth and fifth graders recently enjoyed putting their Bloom's Ball book reports together. The results were brightly colored dodecahedrons. On each of the twelve sides was a product that required a specific level of thinking. The oral presentations were excellent and created interest among class members in reading some of the other books themselves.
Like all classes, AIG has been busy reviewing and practicing reading strategies in preparation for the EOG. Many of those strategies are being used as we read Code Talkers, a WWII historical fiction novel.
Math
Math for fourth grade is following an inclusion model where Mrs. Sides is collaborating with a regular classroom teacher, Mrs. Hedrick, to provide challenging activities for high achieving students as well as identified AIG students in her math class. They have been preparing for the EOG by completing review activities in various centers.
Fifth graders have a math remediation class twice a week with other high achievers. They are actively enjoying competing against each other in games and team activities. In their daily class they have been constructing solid figures and learning to use line segments and angles to make amazing line designs.
Third Grade
Regular classroom teachers are in the process of making referrals for the AIG program. Evaluations will be based on the EOG scores for this year, the IQ score from this past September, report card grades, and performance indicators. Additional testing may be required in some cases.
K-2 Nurturing
AIG teachers throughout the RSS system recently attended a workshop on enhancing the curriculum with the use of special sets of Legos designed for education. As time permits, various lessons will be introduced in K-2 classrooms.
