FIRST GRADE: This year I am working with sixteen first grade students on various reading skills and strategies in small group settings.  We have been learning to read and spell the first grade high frequency words as well as many vocabulary words.  Students are reading short books and retelling stories in their own words.

THIRD GRADE:  My sixteen third graders are reading books/selections and strengthening their comprehension skills.  We have worked hard on using story details and personal experiences to make inferences about characters and events.  The students are also identifying cause/effect relationships and sequence of events in stories and selections.
Additionally, we are learning decoding strategies to help us read unfamiliar words.  Our high frequency words are reinforced each week as well.

FOURTH GRADE:  This year I am facilitating small groups of students working on reviewing and reinforcing various reading skills and strategies.  We are practicing identifying main idea and details in a selection, predicting outcomes, making inferences and drawing conclusions, and also identifying the author's purpose   We have also used graphic organizers to help us comprehend a selection. Fourth graders have enjoyed reading various types of poetry.

FIFTH GRADE:  Students have learned to use numerous strategies to aid in their comprehension of a selection.  We have worked extensively on EOG vocabulary.
