We have learned 9 ABC cheers so far. Ask your child to tell you the ABC Chants for these letters. Our homework routine is, routine! THANK YOU for helping your child complete and return homework. All assignements are listed on the blue weekly assignement sheets in the homework folder. Your child is bringing this home DAILY. They are also bringing home their "Read Well Reading Notebook" to practice reading. Make sure to initial whenever your child practices reading! IF your child does not bring home his/her Read Well Notebook, you can assume that I did not send it home on that day. Some days I do not send it home. Make sure your child is reviewing the stories whenever the notebook does come home. Our Reaching Beyond the Stars behavior system is going well. Each student has an astronaut and is working towards using good behavior to move their astronaut to the biggest star. Ask your child where his/her astronaut went today! PLEASE make sure to initial on your child's blue weekly assignment sheet so I know you reviewed the daily behavior note. We have also just started earning "caught being good" chips. We will keep track of how many chips we earn in a week. I found a new place for us to practice our sight words. Go to www.spellingcity.com and click the "find a list" icon. Put in "Haycook" and all the sight words for each week will pop up. Your child can play games with the words and you can print out worksheets for extra practice too! Let me know what you think. The first quarter of Kindergarten was a GREAT one! Congratulations to our renaissance winners - Corey, Ethan, Rose, and Valerie for GOLD, Jordy for BRONZE, and Leah for HIGH FIVE. Way to go! We will be celebrating them at our Renaissance Celebration on November 7 at 8:30am. Let's all work hard during quarter 2 to have more renaissance winners! Our class has snack time every day. Some children are not bringing a snack to school! Please pack a small nutritious snack for your child to have during this time. Drinks are not needed because we have a water fountain in the classroom. Have you visited the Skyline webpage? There is a link to it on the bottom of this site. Check it out! There is a link on the Skyline webpage where your child can practice reading letters and words! Click on the "Reading Skills - Lee Co." area on the left hand side. Use the "Letter Recognition" and "Fry's 500 Most Frequently Read Words" areas to practice. How fun! Our clinic is in dire need of clothes! Any donation of children's pants, shorts, and especially underwear are GREATLY appreciated! Also, if you child needs to borrow clothes from the clinic, please be sure to RETURN THEM WASHED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Our school is collecting Box Tops for Education and Campbell's labels. Send them in! ABCs of Kindergarten! Attendance is very important! If your child misses school, please remember to write a note or call the office telling why your child was absent. Always check your child's Bookbag every day! Every child's Birthday is important. We will be celebrating birthdays with monthly celebrations with our entire Kindergarten grade level. Communication is important. Feel free to contact us whenever you have a question or concern with a note in your child's daily folder or a phone call to the school (772-3223). All phone calls will be returned within 48 hours. Our system for Discipline is simple. We work hard to make the classroom a positive and safe place for all. Rules are agreed upon during the first week of school and read and discussed daily. Problems are looked upon as just that--problems to be solved. This year we will be Reaching Beyond the Stars! for our class behavior system. Please help your child learn to Enter and Exit the building safely. They should always be escorted by a grown-up when crossing the parking lot. You can help your child learn by making Flashcards with their sight words written on them. Practicing these with your child on a daily basis will enhance their ability to excel in Folders will be coming home daily with your child! The folders will contain homework, a behavior sheet, and other important information. Please be sure to go over this with your child, initial it, and send it back the next day! G is for the good times we will have learning all year! Kindergarten is a memorable year for all. Lets have a good one! Students will have Homework every week. The homework assignments will vary and will be sent home in your child's homework folder every Monday. Please return the homework in the homework folder by Friday. The children will be rewarded by returning homework on time. It is Important to keep all records current. If you move, get a new phone number, or change babysitters, please be sure to inform the school. The Keys to a successful school year include good communication between home and school, a positive attitude, homework turned in on time and good attendance. Money is difficult for a child to keep track of. Please send in any money in a sealed, labeled envelope or baggie. Our school Nurse is on staff to take care of any emergencies and needed medications. If your child has a fever or has been sick the night before, please do not send him/her to school. Parent/teacher conferences will be held during January. We will look forward to meeting each parent individually! Please make sure that we have your current Phone number at home and at work. We also need a number of a trusted friend or family member to call if we can not reach you. It's important that we be able to reach you in case of an emergency. Always let us know if you have any Questions or concerns. We'll gladly address them! Please review our school Rules with your child. It's important that your child understands and follows our classroom rules. When a change in Transportation must occur, a note must be sent to the teacher and a phone call must be made to the office. If we are not alerted of the change, we are required to send your child home the way they usually go home! Your child is important to us! We will always treat your child with lots of love, respect, and Understanding!! We love parent Volunteers. If you have some time to offer--either in the classroom or at home, please sign up to be a volunteer. Help is always needed and appreciated. If you aren't able to come for any reason, please give as much notice as possible. We count and plan on you!! You must always sign in at the office and get a Visitor's pass. Strangers on campus cause concern and will be asked to report to the office. Remember, --not everyone knows you. Have your child Wear practical clothes to school. We will make every effort to protect your child's clothes. Also, please label all jackets, sweaters, backpacks, and lunch boxes with permanent ink. We have extra clothes in the nurse's office if your child has an accident, or gets wet, etc. If your child needs a change, the school nurse has some articles of clothing that she will lend. The supply is very limited! These clothes need to be washed and returned as soon as possible. NOTE: If you have any old clothes to donate to the school, it would be greatly appreciated. IDEAS TO HELP YOUR CHILD STUDY SIGHT WORDS --Have Magnetic letters? Your child can create the words on the refrigerator. --Get some chalk & write the words on the driveway. -Cut pieces of paper. Write one letter of a word on each piece of paper. Your child then unscrambles the letters to spell the word correctly. --Write the words with bright colored markers or paint the words with water color paint. --Put sand or salt in a box. Then as you quiz your child on the words, he/she writes them in the sand/salt. Shake the box & do the next word.
