ADVANCED PLACEMENT ENGLISH LITERATURE:

CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2009 - YOU DID IT! I'LL SEE YOU ALL AT THE COLLISEUM FOR GRADUATION PRACTICE!

IF YOU REGISTERED FOR A. P. ENG. LIT. AND COMP., YOU SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED A SUMMER READING LIST AND A PACKET OF BOOK BRIEFS TO COMPLETE ON YOUR SUMMER READING BOOKS. IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE THIS, GO TO THE SCHOOL WEBSITE (mcjags.com) AND COPY THEM. THE BOOK BRIEFS ARE DUE ON THE FIRST DAY THAT YOU ATTEND ENGLISH CLASS IN AUGUST.

You will be reading Crime and Punishment and The Awakening. I recommend that you read Crime and Punishment first. It is the longer of the two, and it is more difficult to dig into at first because of the Russian names. Push through it, though, and you will find it an amazing read! The Awakening is shorter, but it still has depth and is often used by students for the open question on the AP Lit. exam.

You will also need to read the book chosen for the school-wide read. However, you do not need to complete a book brief on this one before attending class.

Happy reading! I look forward to meeting all of you in August!
