9th and 10th grade Physical Education Syllabus
Overview:
Students will begin each grading period with a hundred percent average for Physical Education. Students will be deducted the following points: ND (not Dressed) = 5 point deduction; NP (not participating) = 3 point deduction; ID (improper Dress) = 2 point deduction. A student is not allowed to participate if not dressed out for Physical Education (for heath and safety concerns). Participation is being active in the activity and warm-ups (more than just dressing out: just walking is not participating) and really trying to do the activities. Team sports need team members to participate and help the team and show good sportsmanship.
If a student is not going to participate in Physical Education class a medical note must be provided. The student will have written assignments to do for a grade. Unless the injury is incapacitating, the student must still dress out. Students may wear dark colored shorts (length must be longer than finger tips) and a light colored tee-shirt (no alcoholic, tobacco advertisements, or any improper language); white socks and tennis shoes. Students must be in their squad line dressed 5 minutes after the tardy bell at the beginning of class. Students will be given 8-10 minutes at the end of class to change. Students are not allowed to leave the gym or locker-room until the bell rings ending class (penalty hall will be given). No student is allowed to enter the high school until the bell rings.
Grading:
Health grades will be based on class work, homework, quizzes, test, and projects. Health will count 50% of your six weeks grade. Physical Education grading will be based on the above criterion mentioned in the overview.
Materials Needed:
Students are expected to keep a 3 ring binder with the capability of adding loose-leaf paper. Students are expected to have pencils and pens for class. Students will be expected to keep notes and other assignments for exam review.
Absences:
Please note the school policy on absences. You have one day to make up work missed for each day you have an excused absence. If you do not make it up in this time you will receive a zero for that assignment. Remember that it is your responsibility to see that this has been done and to get the assignment. Be sure to ask me or another student what was missed and make that work up in the required time period. If you cannot meet the time requirements, please see me before the time expires and I will work with you. After the third day of missing Physical Education you will get a zero (for every day missed) if you fail to ask me for make-up work. All Doctor?s notes for absences must be turned in to the office by the end of that six weeks-if not turned in by the end of the six weeks the notes will not count towards exam exemption.
Tardies:
School policy states that you will receive penalty hall upon receipt of your third tardy and one hour of penalty hall for each tardy after that. You must be seated at your desk when the bell rings. Tardies carry over to the next six weeks. You will receive a zero for the assignment that I am collecting that day if you have an unexcused tardy.
Food and Drinks:
Food and Drink is not permitted outside the cafeteria and inside the classrooms. Do not bring drinks or food into class (penalty hall will be given).
Cell Phones/Headphones:
Cell phone, Gaming devices, and any type or CD or MP3 players are not permitted in class. They will be taken and given to the principal. The First offense is penalty hall, the second is ISS, and every time after that it is OSS.
Participation and Attitude is essential in Health and Physical Education.
