I am very excited about the the opportunity to teach and welcome your WONDERFUL children to my class in the upcoming 2011 - 2012 school year!!

Teacher Suggestions

Have your child read or read with your child often! Whenever possible, get your child involved with real life experiences such as a visit to a zoo, museum, nature trail, or factory. Let them help you in the kitchen with measurements as you cook. As a reward, take a trip to the library. Keep those precious discussions going by asking probing questions beginning with who, what, when, where, how, and why. Take advantage of all those teachable moments because kids are our future!

     At Draytonville, students are learning new concepts daily, so ask your child what they learned at school so you can reinforce those issues. Together, let's feed their hungry brains with knowledge and get them excited about reading, writing, and learning! I personally want to thank you for the great pleasure in allowing me to teach your terrific children. My personal philosophy is that each student will be treated as if they were my very own. They are truly loved!

Study!

Please have students to frequently look over and study all hand-outs for each subject. It is important they learn good study habits and read at least 20 minutes each day. When students receive their hand-outs, they are instructed to store them in subject specific folders.  It is the responsibility of the students to keep up with them, since budget cuts will no longer allow me to give replacement copies.

Homework Notice

 This site will provide all current information. Also a hard copy of the homework sheet and newsletter is sent home in the testfolder on Mondays. When students fail to turn in homework, they are required to write a note explaining why they failed their responsibility, which is filed in students' records that will be available for parents to view during conferences. At the end of each nine week period, I subtract 2 points for each note the student wrote when they did not complete their homework assignment. For example, if one student does not turn in homework 8 times during the nine week period, his/her grade would be 100 - 16 = 84 and will count as a test grade. Students who do not turn in homework may be required to complete the work during recess when deemed important and necessary.

Unit Tests

 Students should study all content notes, hand-outs, and maps in order to improve their grade on Unit tests. Students are responsible for keeping up with these materials, which are costly to duplicate.  Lengthly measures are taken to aid students in organizing their important information at the beginning of the year.

Test Folders

Test Folders will be sent home, when possible on Monday's, if not, on Tuesday's which will include tests, quizzes, class work, etc. from the prior week. Please remove items placed into the "Keep at Home" section and return items that are found in the "Return to School" section. Once a week, if deemed necessary, some parents / guardians will be asked to sign the "Behavior Sheet", which will be stapled to the front of the test packet. This sheet will indicate the color of the behavior card that the student was on at the end of each day. Green and Yellow are not so bad, Pink, Blue, or Orange requires consequences. Refer to the behavior sheet that was sent home at the beginning of the year.  PLEASE  SIGN THE  BEHAVIOR SHEET....ALSO, PLEASE RETURN TEST FOLDER AND BEHAVIOR SHEET by the next day; please keep all work and graded papers from the stapled pack. Students who remain on green all week will not have a behavior sheet with the packet, so just sign the front page of the stapled pack and return it so I will know you have seen your child's work.
