WELCOME TO ALL OF MY STUDENTS!!! As you know my name is Ms. Kreiling and I am the reading teacher for Team 6B "THE BEST" for the 2008-2009 school year. We meet in room 255 in our beautiful new school. I have always been an avid reader and it is my hope to pass this love of reading onto all of my students. I am looking forward to getting to know each and everyone of you.
Here is some information that should help you get off to a great start!!
***It is a requirement that you have a novel of your choice in your book bag at ALL times***
***Please have a section in your binder for reading class.***
***It is suggested that you have an expo marker and eraser if you wish to utilize the white boards that are in class***
***TEACHER WISH LIST--Kleenex, hand sanitizer, wipe its, paper for class printer

Review class rules and procedures
Goals-Create 5 goals for the coming school year. Trace a footprint and write your goals in the foot. Decorate the foot anyway you choose.
Tuesday-Teacher Planning
Wednesday
ALL CLASSES-SURF Have a novel of your choice in your bookbag . After 25 minutes of silent reading write 5 new or interesting words that you came across while reading silently. Write the sentence from the passage where the word appeared.
Period 2 -Surf time will be made up during the week
Thursday
Read the poem, "Life Doesn't Frighten Me" by Maya Angelou-Discuss situations that might make someone feel frightened and uncomfortable. Students will start to brainstorm about situations in middle school that they might feel uncomfortable with.
Friday-Students will create and illustrate their own book based on the theme of the poem, "Life Doesn't Frighten Me"

Week of 9/15-9/19
ALL classes have completed the SRI (Scholastic Reading Inventory) Students have received their "lexile score" and shown how to use the website lexile.com. Please choose the novels that you choose to read using your lexile!!
Periods 3 and 6 have been to the computer lab. We have discussed lab expectations and procedures. I was just informed that we are scheduled for computer carts that we can use in our classroom for "Teen Biz" The rules and procedures are the same.
Monday Period 1-Assessment for context clues
Periods 1,2,4,5, Start reading the novel "Double Dutch" by Sharon Draper. Books will be assigned by number. Remember your novel #. Also---I have chosen this novel because the author is trying to schedule an appearance at our school. You will hear her speak and she might even autograph a novel for you----MORE on this at a later time.
