*Social Studies Change 11/4/09 - vocabulary for social studies will be included with the unit test on Monday, 11/8/09. There will not be a separate vocabulary test on Thursday 11/5.

    • Students started a new short story last week using a sequence graphic organizer to tell their main ideas. Writing will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
    • In addition, students are working on two writing assignments on our web-based writing program called Write-to-Learn. One is on a special piece of clothing and the other on a day they remember that was significant because of the weather. The two assignments can be accessed at school or home using their logon at:
  • Grammar/ Punctuation
    • Class will continue to work on quotation marks this week as part of the City of Ember work.
  • Novel Study - The City of Ember
    • Students will read chapters 11, 12, and 13 this week.
    • Focus will be on vocabulary, point-of-view, and emerging themes in book.
  • Projects
    • Cereal Box Book Reports are due Wednesday,Nov. 4th
    • Commercials will be scheduled out beginning on Thursday, Nov. 5th. Commercials should be between 30 - 60 seconds long.

Social Studies

  • Students are working collaboratively in small groups to create a visual representation of a hunter-gatherer society and a farming society. Students will then write a compare/contrast essay on these lifestyles.
  • We will learn this week about the factors of a civilization.
  • Quiz on lessons 1 & 2 will be on Monday, Nov. 2nd.
