Writing -

• Our web based writing program called Write to Learn can be accessed at home by going to the following website: http://pearsonkt.com/WriteToLearn/de/mot
• Each student has a userid and password to access their own writing queue. I have placed in their online writing queue several prompts students may choose to work on. Students can submit their work for immediate feedback on the six traits of writing - organization, ideas/development, sentence fluency, word choice, conventions, voice/style. Students can then revise their writing piece based on the feedback given and resubmit it for an improved score.  
• New Reading Unit - Fables/ Myths / Folktales
  • students will read the Oral Tradition genre to learn how early authors/storytellers explained things from nature; taught morals; just entertained with their stories. Stories are from many different cultures. In addition, students will write an original folktale of their own, complete with animal characters.

Social Studies

• Congratulations Sixth Grade Geography Bee class level winners Isaac J., Bella S., and Yasmin M. Each of these studens answered all of their questions from the first 7 rounds correctly. We will have a grade level competition this week to narrow down to 2 grade level winners who will compete at the school wide Bee later this month!

• Mesopotomia Test - Wednesday, Jan 20th

• Study guide went home with students Friday, Jan 15th
• Mesopotamian Idol - Thursday, Jan 21st and Friday, Jan 22nd.
