 Mrs. Webster's

First Grade Wonders!

  •  I just wanted to take a small moment and send a very warm, sincere thank you to all the families who supported me this year.  I am so proud to be a Robert's Elementary teacher.  I truly love my job and was once again blessed with amazing students and parents. I cannot believe a year has gone by already. I want to send a million thank you's to Emily Page for organizing our year and communicating information with regards to our class.  I also want to thank all of my parents for the generous end of the year gifts.  I am truly humbled by your generosity.  I will miss each and every one of my first graders!  Please keep in touch with me and let me know how you and your families are doing.Have a safe, relaxing summer and see you next year!  Best, Madalyn

  • Our Class Party has been set for Wednesday, May 27 from 1:30-2:30. I would also like to extend an invitation for you to stop by a little early at 1:00 in our classroom for our WE ARE WRITERS celebration.  We want to share several BIG writing accomplishments from the school year.  There is also a SPECTACULAR writing surprise we know you will treasure always.  So stop by for some celebration X's two.  I hope to see you all there!

  • Student-Led Portfolio week begins tomorrow.  i just wanted to give a few reminders to help the process go smoothly.  Stop by my room 30 minutes before or after our lunchtime to pick up your child's portfolio.  Our lunchtime begins at 11:55 and ends at 12:25.  The portfolio and two reflections sheets will be attached with a clip.  Please keep everything together.  The reflection sheets will help guide your conversation with your child during the reflection process.  The I.B. portfolio contains work samples across-the-curriculum collected at different times of  the year.  Please make sure you return all work samples and surveys to me when you are finished.  The work may not go home as it will follow your child from grade to grade.  So bring a lunch for a picnic, pick up the portfolio, and let your child lead the way!

  • I.B. Heads-up...We have learned SO MUCH about what it was really like with past transportation, communication, and just every day life during our last planner What Was It Like?  We are moving into our new I.B. unit of study titled Water, Water Everywhere.  It is a study of our natural resources and our influences upon it.  If you have knowledge of our own water supply locally or water supplies around the world and would like to  share your knowledge with the kids, feel free to email me for a time to visit and share!

  • The new Scholastic book order is being placed on Monday. I expect them within a week.  Thanks for sending in your orders!

  • Many, many thanks to....Emily Page for organizing the wonderful year book.  I LOVE IT!  It is an amazing peek at your beautiful children and their writing.  If you want one, you can order them off the shutterfly website.  For more information email Emily Page.

  • Another thank you to all the Daddies who are steppin' up to help us out this week.

  • Thank you to the Boutwell Family for supplying us with pencils and large erasers.  Also, thank you for bringing in extra Kleenex boxes for all these runny noses this week.

  • A HUGE thank you to the families who purchased books for me from the Scholastic Book Fair.  I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! Your kindness is very appreciated from the bottom of my heart.

  • Thank you to Ms. Salinas and Ms. Peralta for chaperoning our superb field trip to CHARLOTTE'S WEB.  It was a great opportunity for the children to see live actors close-up and personal.  I know it inspired us all for our upcoming plays.

  • The Webster First Graders will present two fabulous productions...The Little RED Hen and Little RED Riding Hood.  Mark your calendars for this event,  Monday, May 18 at 1:30 in the cafeteria.  Awards following the plays.  Be on the lookout for more information coming your way regarding costumes etc...

  • I.B. Student-Led Conference week coming the week of May 11th.  Come by and view your child's I.B. portfolio.  This is a time for converstation, celebration, and reflection one-on-one with your child.  Please set up your time by sending back the hot pink flyer, if you haven't already done so.  For those of you new to the I.B. Student-Led Conferences...it is a wonderful opportunity.  We look forward to having you!

  • ASSESSMENTS!!!  Kathy Richardson math testing will begin this week! DRA reading testing will also be going on.  Final grades are being taken. Attendance is needed

  • Our unit on poetry was nothing less than spectacular.  I cannot wait to share it with you.  Stay tuned!

  • No more homework packets.  Please begin reading chapter books regularly.  Start your summer writing journals.  Continuous reading and writing now and through the summer will keep your children sharp and FLUENT for the next school year.  Make your child a promise to visit your local public library weekly.

  • If you feel like you need an End OF the Year parent-teacher conference, please email me at mwebster@houstonisd.org.

  • Thank you for your ongoing support and kindness.  I am blessed to have such wonderful children and parents.  I truly love teaching at Roberts Elementary School!

All Best,

mwebster@houstonisd.org
