Seventh Grade Math

                    Course Information

We will cover the following topics in the  - Holt Middle School Math, Course 2 text book for the North Carolina Course of Study: Number & Operation, Measurement, Geometry, Data Analysis,   Probability and Algebra

Course is required for graduation and does have an end of course test.

Three ring binder
Four dividers
college ruled notebook paper
Pencils and / or blue / black ink pens

                    Notebook Sections
Section 1 - Notes
Section 2 - Daily Work (activities, questions, review sheets, etc.)
Section 3 - Vocabulary / Formulas
Section 4 - Tests / Quizzes

                    Grading

Grading will be on a point system.  You are encouraged to keep a tally sheet in your notebook.

Final Grades:
    37.5% 1st nine weeks
    37.5% 2nd nine weeks
    25% EOC

There will be four tests in each quarter, covering the material reviewed in class, between tests during that quarter.  Homework and classroom participation will be graded.  Each student will be assigned a text book and must return the book (or purchase it) at the end of the school year.  You will need the text book to complete your homework.

You should spend at least 2 hours outside of class each week studying and preparing for this course!  There will be some web based assignments, please make arrangements to complete these assignments either at home, or in our computer lab or school library.

                    Classroom Rules

1. Be in your seat when the bell rings.
2. Respect each other and your teacher.
3. Be prepared, everyday!
4. No food, drink, or candy is allowed in the room! (Exception:  You are allowed to have bottled water.)
5.  Clean up your mess! 
    We also follow all school rules as listed in the school handbook!

                    Rewards
    Students will be rewarded for good behavior with a combination of praise, positive         comments, and other privileges.
    Each week we will recognize our “Math Scholar”.  This award will be given based on         classroom participation, effort and overall attitude.
                   
                    Consequences of Misconduct
1st Time: Verbal warning
2nd Time: Student will stay after class for 3 minutes and complete an action plan.
3rd time: Student will stay after class for 5 minutes and a parent-teacher conference will be scheduled.
4th time: Student will be sent to administratioin.

                    What if I am absent?

If you are present the day an assignment is given but absent the day it is due, you are to hand in the assignment the day that you return.

If you are at school the day an assignment is due but not in class on that day, you are to give the assignment to Mr. Washington or put it in his box on the day it is due.

Make-up work from days missed is  your responsibility.  Please check your calendars for the topic and textcovered, and check the assignment folders for missed work.  DO NOT ACCEPT “NOTHING” AS AN ANSWER FROM  YOUR CLASSMATES WHEN YOU ASK WHAT WE DID!  All students have the number of days absent plus one to make up any missed work!

                    Classroom Procedures
Students will follow the Seventh Grade Academy Expectations (posted).
Students will follow the attendance and tardy policies of the school. 
During group worktimes, you may get up and move around the room as needed to complete the goals of your assignment.
Work not complete at the time of collection is late.  Late work will be acceptedwith point deductioins taken depending on the timethat has elapsedbetween due date and date of completion.
    Assignments that are graded in class will not be accepted late!
    Assignments given more than one week in advance of their due date will not be accepted         late, no exceptions!

Cheating will not be tolerated!  If you arre caught cheating in any way, you will receive a zero on the assignment and  your parents will be notified.  You will also be referred to the seventh grade administration officefor disciplinary action.  If you are a member of the National Honor Society, they will also be notified of your dishonesty!

As part of the respect rule, please get your sleep at home instead of my classroom.

All work must be done in blue or black ink or in pencil. 

For every second someone is packing up early, the class will stay after the bell has rung to make up for time lost.  The teacher will instruct you when to pack up and when the class is dismissed.  The bell does not dismiss the class.
