Welcome to Ms. Stamper's 6th Grade Social Studies

It's hard to believe we are midway into the 2nd quarter. However we are.. We are working hard on bonding as a class.

In Social Studies we are into the study of Europe which includes: customs, traditions, climate, economy, movement of

people and goods, as well as the geography. Students have been assigned a Country. This is an intense project and it is due Jan.

5,2011. I have given each child complete directions and what is expected for each country. If your child loses this pleas look

below to find the directions;

SOCIAL STUDIES PROJECT

You will be assigned a country to collect facts from.  These facts will be used to create various graphs, maps, and displays.

  You will use the World Almanac, Atlas, Encyclopedia, and other library resources to gather the information for your project. 

All your information must be displayed somehow on a science backboard or poster board.
      YOUR PROJECTS WILL BE DUE TUESDAY JAN. 5, 2010. THIS  WILL COUNT AS TWO (2) PROJECT GRADES.  I WILL NOT

ACCEPT LATE PROJECTS.  WE WILL USE SOME CLASS TIME TO DO RESEARCH  IN THE MEDIA CENTER.  IF YOU WASTE THE

TIME I AM GIVING YOU TO THE WORK YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE MEDIA CENTER.

USE THE WORLD ALMANAC TO FIND THE FOLLOWING:

USE AN ENCYCLOPEDIA TO RESEARCH THE FOLLOWING TOPICS RELATED TO YOUR COUNTRY:

HISTORY: (10 pts)
    Create a TIMELINE of important events in history of your country         you must have at least ten (10) dates

NATIONAL FLAG: (10 PTS)
    Create a drawing of your country’s flag. You may use various             materials to create your flag (draw and color,

paint, construction         paper, fabric, etc. ) Flags MAY NOT BE DOWNLOADED FROM         THE INTERNET OR STORE BOUGHT!

WHAT I LIKED/LEARNED: (5 PTS)
    Write at least 2 paragraphs giving a summary of what you liked
    most about your country and what you learned

USE ANY OTHER RESOURCES IN THE MEDIA CENTER TO RESEARCH THE FOLLOWING TOPICS RELATED TO YOUR COUNTRY

PINWHEEL: (10 pts)
    Chose ten (10) topics you would like to research. Name and  decorate/color your pinwheel which I will give you. Write

a topic
    beside each number. Write the answer in the pie slice. You can
    chose from the following: government, ethnic groups, size of country
    bodies of water, capital, major cities, languages, exports, imports, attractions, attractions, region, land forms, natural

resources,             industries, climate, religion, crops, famous person, events in history. If
    there is something else of interest you want to use you may do so.
    YOU WILL ONLY GET ONE PINWHEEL DON’T LOSE IT!!!

TOURIST ATTRACTION: (10 PTS)
     Find a popular tourist attraction in your country. Create a drawing showing what it is and what people do there. This

drawing is to be      done on the postcard I give you. It must be drawn and colored. The information about the place also

must be written on the postcard given to you. YOU WILL ONLY GET ONE DO NOT LOSE IT!!

RECIPE: (5 PTS)
    Find a recipe served in your country. Copy it.

HOLIDAY or CELEBRATION: (5 pts)   
    Write a paragraph about one holiday or celebration held in your         country which is NOT celebrated in the USA or is

celebrated             differently. Include dates, purpose, and a description of the activities         associated with the holiday or

celebration.

USE AN ATLAS TO CREATE AND COLOR A MAP OF YOUR COUNTRY WHICH INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING: (20PTS)
    Title
    Key
    Compass Rose
    Capital and five (5) cities
    You must also include ONE of the following; River, Body of Water or a land form
    YOU MAY NOT USE A MAP DOWNLOADED FROM THE             INTERNET

ALL OF YOUR INFORMATION MUST BE ON A BACKBOARD OR POSTER BOARD. BE CREATIVE . DON’T LOSE THIS PAPER I WILL

NOT GIVE YOU ANOTHER ONE. IF YOU NEED HELP ASK. I CANNOT HELP YOU IF I DO NOT KNOW YOU NEED HELP. MS. STAMPER
             


We are doing a different Quick Write writing prompt each day at the beginning of class. We will write daily.

Reminders


* All students are expected to follow the uniform policy. Red polo shirts . Khaki twill pants.  NO "SAGGIN' AND DRAGGIN'," we want you

to look like the wonderful young ladies and gentlemen we know you are.

* NO electronic equipment allowed in the classroom. If your child brings it to class and I see it I will take it from them. The item will be

turned into the office and you will have to come pick it up. Simple rule to remember is "If you don't want me to take it. Don't Bring it"

* All Bookbags must be kept in lockers. They are not allowed in the classroom

* Please be aware gum is not allowed on the school grounds and in the classroom for several reasons. Students will be told and warned and

if the same student(s) continue to not follow the NO GUM ALLOWED policy, the student will have silent lunch, then After school  detention,

after all of the above are done we are given no choice but to send an office referral. Remind your child NO GUM PLEASE.

* Please call the homework hotline daily to find out the homework for the team. I do the hotline for our team so you can call the one number

and get the homework for the Creator's Team . I have the homework on by 10:30 and the number is 704-633-2922 ext. 609. You can also

leave any messages at this number for any teacher on the team.
