Welcome to Ms. Johnson's Olympians Math Class Page

Happy New Year to everyone! This web page will contain information about our math curriculum, classroom activities, and other team events.

To be successful in math class, students should come to class prepared to learn, complete all assignments, and hand them in on time. Students are expected to contribute and be productive in a positive learning environment. My goal is to prepare students for higher level math and personal success.

In December we were fortunate to be have guest author, Scott Roche, visit our language arts classes.  He authored Ginnie Dare: Crimson Sands, a science fiction work for children.

We are looking forward to having an engineer visit our math classes in late January or February and demonstrate 3-dimensional prototype printing and its programming.

Students are currently studying fractions, decimals, percents, and ratios.  Please check your child's agenda and notes binder each day to ensure that assignments and daily notes are complete.  Notes each week should contain problems and notes from Keeping Skills Sharp and Math Essentials as well as lesson instructions and problem solving.  Each student should come to class prepared with an agenda, a 3-ring notes binder, loose leaf notebook paper, and 2-3 sharpened pencils.  Each student should leave a 70 sheet spiral notebook in class everyday that is used as a daily journal.

After school tutoring has been offered on Wednesday afternoons. This will continue, and other afternoons and mornings will be offered for tutoring time.  We will soon begin to use the ALEKS math learning program which is web based.  I am gathering information about transportation availability and will send home invitations and permission forms for personalized student schedules.  Please be looking for these forms by mid-January. We will also be learning and using a program sponsored through North Carolina's Center for Design Innovation.  More information will be sent home about this in the future.

Any questions, concerns, or to schedule a conference, please contact me at 704-633-2922 ext. 601. Daytime conferences can be scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays between 11:30-1:00, or Mondays or Fridays after 3:30 pm.

My homework hotline is the same number. Homework is routinely assigned four nights per week: Monday through Thursday.
