INFO ABOUT MR. ORBISON:
The choral department at East Rowan is under the direction of Mr. Dean Orbison. Mr. Orbison holds a BM in Performance and BME from Wingate University, with further studies in Music Theory from Calton College in Northfield, MN, and studies in Ed. Administration from UNC-Charlotte. While at east Mr. Orbison's choirs have performed at Carnegie Hall in NYC, National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. , Lakeland Performing Arts Center in Lakeland, FL, Contemporary Performing Arts Center in Virginia and 8 other states along the eastern US. The choirs from East have received superior ratings in NC State Choral Adjudication Festival for the past 15 years. Mr. Orbison's students are selected for NC Honors Chorus, All State Chorus, Mars Hill Choral Festival, and All County Chorus. The honors chorus at East is currently seven time grand champion choir , competing in national festivals along the east coast. The choral department at East was also semi-finalist for the Grammy's in Our Schools National Competition in 2009.
Mr. Orbison holds a number of honors and awards, having been recognized as a Time Warner Star Teacher in 2002, 2005, and 2006, Faith Jaycee's Educator of the Year in 2004, East Rowan High School TOY in 2002, and finalist in the Disney National Teacher Awards program in 2005. Mr. Orbison is also listed in several editions of Who's Who Among America's Teachers and Who's Who in America.
Mr. Orbison holds others duties as director of the Catawba College Youth Chorale, the Rowan County Concert Choir and is Minister of Music at West Corinth Baptist Church in Mooresville, NC.
