***********************************************************

Dear Students and Families,

Welcome to 7th Grade English! I'm excited about the opportunity to get to know you, and I'm looking forward to a positive and productive school year.

Curriculum areas we will focus on this year include:
understanding elements of stories and novels
practicing strategies for reading informational text
responding to literature through writing
reading and creating poetry
writing nonfiction

Supplies:
Students are asked to bring the following supplies to school for English class:

hard back three ring binder
5 tabbed dividers for binder
lined loose leaf notebook paper
composition notebook (bound, not spiral)
pencils

Homework:
The purpose of homework is to extend student learning on classroom topics. During the second semester, homework will typically be a spelling packet assigned on Tuesday and due the following Tuesday. Homework may also be an assignment begun in class, but not completed. Other homework is given on an as needed basis. Students will receive credit for completing homework.

Makeup Work/Grading Policy/Late Work :
Each six week grading period, students will receive a variety of grades including, but not limited to, interactive notebook activities, spelling homework and quizzes, writing assignments, and tests.

Students who are absent with an excuse may make up missed work within three days of their return to school. Students are responsible for requesting and completing their own make up work.

Late work not due to absence will receive no more than 50% credit.

Families, if you have any questions or concerns or if you would like to visit our classroom, schedule a conference, or volunteer to help out, you can contact me at (540) 268-2262.

Once again, welcome to English 7. Let's work together to make this the best year ever!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Stacy Penven
