Curriculum Focus- Week of 11-16

Math- Students will be applying math skills learned so far this year.

Language Arts- Students will be doing a novel study of The Chocolate Touch and will be studying challenging vocabulary words.  This week we will not be having a Spelling list for homework.  Instead, students are to study selected vocabulary words and should know the words' definitions, spellings and how to use them in a sentence.  Please practice these daily.  Also, we will be working on narrative story telling.

LA Centers-  Students will select "must-do" (*) and "can-do" centers where they will:

  • * Record information of a Fable on a Fable Cube.
  • Locate on a computer dicitonary words that begin with /ch/.
  • Use phonics and vocabulary skills to find mystery words.
  •  *Listen to a book on tape or CD to complete a “Books On Tape Report.”
  • *Write their own fable.
  • *Rewrite and illustrate this week’s poem and identify the moral.
  • *Edit their writing using a writing rubric.
  • Play a LA center game.

Social Studies- Students will create the laws, government, currency and other factors of their "colony."
