Curriculum Focus- Week of 10-26

Math- Students will continue using coins to do double-digit addition and will begin learning about dollars and decimal points.  

Language Arts- We will be reading fiction and nonfiction books about Owls.  Students will demonstrate comprehension by describing owls and comparing and contrasting them with bats.  Students will be working with the vowel digraph -oo to learn the different sounds (e.g. boot verses book.)  Please note there will be NO SPELLING HOMEWORK this week due to the shortened week.  Students will receive other spelling and phonics practice instead.  


LA Centers-  Students will select "must-do" (*) and "can-do" centers where they will:

  •  Demonstate comprehension through following map directions. 
  • Read instructions to create a Halloween scene on computer the application "Kid Pix." 
  • *Sort action, feeling, and noun words. 
  •  *Listen to a book on tape or CD to complete a “Books On Tape Report.”
  • *Use descriptive words to describe autumn on a pre-writing assignment and a final draft.
  • *Rewrite and illustrate this week’s Halloween poem.
  • Play a monster drawing game by following instructions.

Social Studies- Students will continue to analyze the US to find various types of landforms and bodies of water.

What’s on the Agenda 

  • Students earned an Ice Cream Social during our lunch on October 29th.  Please let us know if you can provide anything.  (Please note our early-release lunch time will be at 10:55.)
  • Correction: Early Dismissal @ 12:00- October 29th 
  • In leau of Fabulous Friday, students will have Terrific Thursday on October 29th in the morning.
  •  Correction: Fall Festival @ 5-8 PM October 29th.
  • No School - October 30th.



Reminders 

 With colder weather here, please make sure your child wears warmer clothes and comes appropriately dressed to school! :)

Please make sure to send money in an envelope with your child's name, lunch number (if applicable) and a note as to where we are to send the money.

Please encourage your child to read 15 minutes each night.  All completed books read are to be recorded in reading log.  If your child is reading a long book, please write me a note to update me. Thank you for your help in encouraging your child's reading skills!
