SWVGS juniors attend Math Boot Camp August 6 and 7 (makeup day is Saturday, August 22).  Orientation at Selu will be August 10 and 11.

RHS/DIS teachers return to school on August 24; students return on August 31.

  • The local gifted advisory committee will meet at the School Board Office on Wadsworth Street at 4:00 p.m. on September 9.  The meeting is open to the public.

  6. Rising 11th or 12th grade students interested in theatre should see Mrs. Swope for information about the Summer Residential Regional Governor's School at Wise.
  7. Rising 11th or 12th grade students interested in a free summer camp (math/science) to be conducted at the Oak Ridge Laboratories in TN (where the atomic bomb was developed) should see Mrs. Swope by Feb. 27.  This is a FREE two-week camp and participants are housed in a hotel.

Email abrown238@radford.edu for applications to RU's Summer Bridge Program (for rising 10th/11th/12th grade girls, this weeklong residential summer camp introduces young women to careers in science, technology, and math--sessions in code-breaking, crime scene analysis, analysis of food samples, and exploration of technological and social aspects of creating online communities).  Two scholarships are available for New River Valley students.
