March 31st Your child has been assigned a specific PI lesson. Please have him/her practice every night throughout the week. More details will follow at a later date.
Can you believe Spring is here? What about Spring Break? Well, it is that time of the year folks! We have only 9 weeks of school left. Let me assure you it will be a busy 9 weeks! 4th Grade Teachers at Granite have been busy preparing your child for 5th Grade. As always, we will now concentrate more on preparing for EOG testing. At the end of each Math and Language Arts class period, we will practice answering sample EOG questions to make sure we are brushed up on all testing skills. I need your help by making certain your child practices PI on a nightly basis. I know this may be difficult some evenings, but we are so close to the end that any additional tutoring will be beneficial. This type of remediation will only improve your child's test scores. That of course will improve his/her confidence in their educational career. Let's try to buckle down and finish off the year with a bang! After today I will schedule PI assessments according to groups. I was ill today and must wait a day on it. Please check back tomorrow for assigned PI assessments designed towards meeting your child's needs.
Curriculum Math We are finishing our lesson on Probability. We will test on it this week. We are also practicing EOG skills to decipher word problems.
Language Arts Some reading classes have been continuing in the Basal Reader. Others are reading the novel The Cay. Each class is continuing to focus on reading strategies to help master passages found on EOG tests. Please remind your child to read daily. It is one of the best methods of enlightening the world of knowledge.
Science We are beginning the exciting part of our animal unit. We began by learning the basics needed to identify and classify animals. Now we will apply that knowledge to create a brochure about a chosen animal. Ask your child which animal they chose. Help them by researching that particular animal. Look for habitats, climate and other significant features. They will be given a guide as to what is needed on their brochure this week. Don't worry, we will create it at school.
Writing We have been writing about Native American legends for our final Content writing prompt. We will have one more On Demand prompt given between now and the end of school. ASk your child what they know about Native American legends. We had a guest speaker today to enlighten us on the subject.
We will have a scheduled Spring Party on Friday of this week. If you would like to send any prewrapped candy please do so as soon as possible. Since there are many people out of town on Monday, we will schedule our party this week. You should receive more information tomorrow. Sorry, my illness has put me a day behind. : )
Thanks to all my parents for supporting the classroom this year! We are a success because of you and your efforts. Please look on this page tomorrow for updates on PI. Thanks Ms. Rowland
