MUSIC NOTES 

February 2012

PK & K - We have been singing some of our favorite songs, winter songs. We are practicing keeping the beat to the songs. Kindergarten is exploring the rhythm instruments. They were able to see a snare drum and how the snares make that "rattling" sound.

Grades 1-3 ~ All grades enjoyed the movie Peter and the Wolf. We listened to the instruments and were able to identify their sound. We really liked the story.

Grade 4 ~ We are learning some of the basic music symbols and how they look in a piece of music. So far we've learned; staff, clef, notes and rests. We then saw how they were arranged in written music.

Grades 5 & 6 ~  We had our test on the Mystery Artists we've studied this year. We also are getting better at reading notes.

Grades 7 & 8 ~ We continue studying the History of American Music. 7th grade is currently learning about the beginnings of jazz, while 8th grade has researched and listened to Soul music including the Motown sound. Soul Music essays are on display in the hall outside the music room.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS

5th Grade ~ Make sure your notebook is in order. I will be collecting them sometime next week (Feb. 13th).

7th Grade ~ Watch the Grammy Awards on Feb. 12th @ 7pm on CBS. Write a 3 paragraph essay. See my handout for directions. Notebooks will also be collected.

Keep your ears open for any songs we might be able to use for the 8th grade slide presentation.
