WE NEED HELP FOR POLAR EXPRESS DAY!!!

We would like to have hot chocolate  and cookies. I will provide the cookies, but we need cups with lids and hot chocolate. In the past a parent has gotten Starbucks to donate-can anyone do this?

2 boxes of powder sugar

Whip egg whites and sugar until you have stiff peaks     Add powder sugar slowly mixing after each addition

*Icing must be the day of use made in a glass or metal container and kept air tight.

Thank you for making this!

Friday will be Polar Express Day (12/19). We will watch the Polar Express on the projector while we eat cookies and drink hot chocolate. Thre will be a surprise for all who "believe." The kids will get to wear pajama's and bring games (non-electronic) to school to play with classmates. We will be pairing up with Mrs. Griffins class for the party so this should be fun!

REMINDER: Tutoring will be done during class time this week and next. I have an intern making this possible. We are continuing the TAKS study guide until after break. As you read at home ask your child to find specific information after reading and show you where it is found. This will help with reading TAKS.

We always need extra snacks! We are about out again. Please send in some extra donations. Also make sure your child brings snack. It is a long time until lunch! If your child goes to tutoring please send two snacks that day-one for morning and one for after school.

Please take a look at our wish list and see if you can help out!

SNACKS!!!

READER'S WORKSHOP: Each child will continue doing reading/conference and projects and individual reading levels. It is an option to bring a book from home to read at school for reader's workshop. It needs to be at the student's reading level and a book that they have not read before.

READING: We will be reading Horrible Harry and the Holidaze. It will tie in with our social studies unit on the winter holidays around the world.

DEAR: Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) continues after specials with our snack. This is a special time to read a book of interest then complete a journal reflections/summary entry. A reading counts test is taken on these books to check self sustained reading comprehension. Three are required, but if a students does an extra journal entry/reading counts test with a score of 90 or higher he/she will receive a homework pass!

SOCIAL STUDIES: We are studying the winter holdays around the globe. We will continue this week with Sweden, Mexico, and more about Hanakkah.

LANGUAGE ARTS: We are using our language arts skill hands on to find about winter holidays around the world.

MATH: We are continuing studying factors of multiplication. It is never too early to begin fashcards at home!

WRITER'S WORKSHOP: We are writing and publishing focusing on the habits of an effective writer. Notes have gone home for Bronco Tales publishing. This needs to be completed by January 15th, but early submissions are welcome. Every student is required to create a book this year. Every student book will receive a homework pass upon completion.

SPELLING: All students are required to complete two items from tier 1 and two items from tier 2 due on Friday.

HOMEWORK: Reading logs are due Monday. Homework is the math sheet that is given on Mondays and due on Fridays each week. Every Monday a new sheet will be given to do that week. The math sheet is two sided. Please check and go over these math concepts with your child as a part of the weekly assignment. This will help prepare for the math TAKS and is very important. It is time to begin practicing on the TEA online TAKS math and reading practice at home at your convenience. This site was given in orientation packets and can be found easily at the TEA site. Practicing this allows you child to become more familiar with the format and figuring out what the question is asking. It is graded online so you can easily go over results.

No spelling homework this week.

Merry Christmas!

Mrs. Howard
