MATH
We will be using a new Math series this year called enVision Math. We are very excited about this highly interactive curriculum! We will begin the year with several weeks of simple addition and subtraction review. Look for practice pages and activities to come home in folders. We will spend every day working in different settings (whole group time, small group time and stations).

WRITING
We will dive deeply into Writer's Workshop right from the first week of school! We'll start with a review of writing simple sentences, and quickly move to creating paragraphs about ourselves and activities we like to do.

If you feel your child needs additional help in any of the areas above, please contact me. I can provide additional materials for practice, and ideas for help at home. Thank you for being an active part of your child's education. It takes parents, students and teachers working together!

From Your Teacher ...
Parent volunteers are always appreciated in our class. Let me know when you are available to help!
***
"Trinket" donations are always needed for our: Prize Box and Friday Auctions.
***
Be involved in your child's education! It makes a difference!
***
I promise to work hard to prepare your child for 3rd grade. This includes teaching responsibility, being more independent, good work and study habits, citizenship, and appropriate classroom behavior. Please help me reinforce these things as needed. I am here to help your child, and I promise to do it with love and fairness, but also with structure and reinforcement. I want your child to love school, and to develop a love for learning! A positive attitude helps boost learning!
***
If any problems arise, I will contact you (by phone, email or note). PLEASE do the same with me. I can only answer a question or help solve a problem if I know there is one. I want every child (and parent) to have a POSITIVE, REWARDING 2nd grade year!
***
BEHAVIOR BUCKS: Each week, your child can earn or lose "Behavior Bucks" for conduct. This is an extra motivational tool, and is not necessarily linked to a misbehavior. Students will be able to spend their earned bucks at our Friday Auctions. In order to have wonderful auctions, we are in need of girl and boy prizes. Where can you get these prizes?........the Dollar Store, Wal-Mart, Family Dollar, Big Lots, etc (even fast food toys and party prizes are great)!
***
AGENDAS: Please check and sign your child's agenda each night. This ensures that a parent has seen any important information that I have sent home in the agenda. Students will put their homework sheets in the clear back-pocket, so be on the lookout for those! You can send or write notes to me in the agenda, and I may write notes to you, too. I will also put your child's daily conduct report in the agenda. Things such as cafeteria charges, library late notices, PTA information, and office memos may be sent home in this back-pocket as well.
***
2nd Grade DRA: By the end of the 4th quarter, each student needs to be at DRA Level 28. How can you help your child improve his/her DRA, be a better reader and have better comprehension? ..... Ask questions as your child reads: Who? What? When? Where? Why? What happened at the beginning, the middle and end? What was the story's problem and solution?
