Welcome to Millbridge and to second grade!!!  Mrs. King Second Grade  January News Reading - We are about to finish our third theme in reading, "Adventure Around Town: Neighborhood and Community." We enjoyed reading about six different kinds of neighborhoods. Skills in this unit included making judgements, main idea with supporting details, inferences, and nouns. Please stop by to see Ricky and his mustache, along with his character sketch in our hallway. Our next theme in Reading will be "Amazing Animals." We will read about an amazing police dog, ants, and dinosaurs. AR Reading - Reading is the single most important thing you can do to help your child at home. Please read at least 20 minutes each night and record the time spent reading on the reading log. Make sure your child reads their AR book at least two times and ask your child comprehension questions about the book before they try to test on the book. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL STUDENTS FOR MAKING THEIR 100% GOAL THE FIRST QUARTER! ALSO CONGRATULATIONS TO MAX, SYDNEY, MONTANA, STAR, HALEY G., SHANE, CHRISTOPHER, BELLA, AND SARAH FOR MAKING THHEIR 150% GOAL THE SECOND QUARTER READING DEADLINE IS JANUARY 20TH. SEVERAL OF MY STUDENTS NEED TO BE READING IN ORDER TO MEET YOUR GOAL FOR SECOND QUARTER. Math -The children have had fun with geometry. We learned about translations, reflections, and rotations. They especially liked finding the letters in their names that had symmetry. We will continue with geometry and soon we will begin telling time and adding and subtracting with regrouping. Science - During this cold month we will be learning about our bird friends. A special unit will feature the penguins. Congratulations, Good Citizens!
