 Ms. Perkins' Second Grade Class News Marvelous May News Reading - Our unit of study in reading is "Talent Show." The students are learning about how to look at fine art. Theme selections will be implemented in our reading curriculum. Upcoming themes are Mother's Day, Robert Munsch books, pirates, beaches, oceans, marine life, Hawaii and end of the year/2010. An emphasis in language arts will be parts of speech (nouns, verbs and adjectives). AR Reading - Reading is the single most important thing you can do to help your child at home. Please read at least 20 minutes each night and record the time spent reading on the reading log. Make sure your child reads their AR book at least two times and ask your child comprehension questions about the book before they try to test on the book. CONGRATULATIONS to Corbin Bolick for meeting 434% of his fourth quarter AR Goal! Math- We are learning about fractions in math. This is a new skill for the students. Please review this concept at home in order to make it easier for the students. Food items make an easy manipulative for teaching fractions. Science - Student will begin learning about animal life cycles. We will classify animals during this time. Congratulations, Good Citizens!
