Mrs. Perry's
 Awesome Second Graders!

Welcome! Remember to send coats with your child. It has been very cold, and we will go outside on cold days. It will also benefit them to have a navy, red, or gray sweater, sweatshirt, or lightweight jacket for inside the classroom. It gets cool in the room when the temperature gets so low.
Math- In math we are continuing:
Adding and subtracting with regrouping
Geometry
Weekly Essentials- a spiral review of all areas of math.
We are focusing on:
Rounding numbers
        Time
        Probability
        Graphing

Social Studies- We will continue to work on map skills and communities in our social studies unit. We have read "Flat Stanley" and are anticipating information from family and friends. We hope to learn about the communities in and around our world, and the adventures that Stanley has while on his travels. We are planning to map out the locations and share the letters provided by our responders.
Reading- We have learned many skills this year and will continue to cover new skills weekly. You may have noticed that our class has learned the following skills to apply while reading; finding the topic, main idea, details, cause and effect, author's viewpoint, making judgments, categorize, classify, summarize, visualize, and sequence. We are using phonics to learn rules for reading. Our class will read more novels and nonfiction texts using higher order thinking skills to help prepare them for the third grade EOG's.
Spelling/ Writing-  Look for the spelling contract weekly. The students will also take tests on the high frequency list. We will write every day. It is very important that what we do in school is followed up at home, so please check homework for correct spelling, neat handwriting, capital letters, and complete sentences. Have your child correct his/her work before turning it in. These are the things we must mastered to become better writers.
Science-  We are exploring matter! This may sound a little boring to you. However, with all the experiments, I guarantee your child will be excited! We have made "Ooblick" and continue to learn more about the states of matter.
