![]() Mrs. Perry's Awesome Second Graders! Welcome to the fall of the year! Remember to send coats with your child. It has been very nippy already, and we will go outside on cold days. Math- In math we are focusing on place value, adding and subtracting with and without regrouping, and adding money. We use the Weekly Essentials each week to spiral learning in class. All students are being exposed to various skills in math. One of our weak areas are working with patterns. Look for homework in these areas several times during the week. Social Studies- We are continuing our work with our Strawberry project. We can not wait until the spring! Reading- We will enjoy different genre in our reading series. Currently we are reading Nature Walk in our basal. The students use strategies, organizers, and activities, to build a greater understanding of concepts learned. This unit ties in nicely with our IMPACT project "The Great Outdoors". Spelling/ Writing- We are testing on words from our different areas of the curriculum. Many words come from the reading series. Other words may come from what I notice in class that everyone seems to have difficulty with. Look for the spelling contract weekly. The students will also take tests on the high frequency list. We will write every day. It is very important that what we do in school is followed up at home, so please check homework for correct spelling, neat handwriting, capital letters, and complete sentences. Have your child correct his/her work before turning it in. These are the things we must mastered to become better writers. Social Studies-We are learning about landforms and the regions of our state. Using SIOP strategies, we are engaging students in hands on learning activities to help promote retention.
