Ms. Geissler's Schedule- Period One: English 10 Period Two: Plan Spartan Hour: Advisory 12th Grade/Tutoring/Lunch Period Three: English 9 Period Four: English 9 Week of December 1, 2008 English 10 English 9 Week of September 8-12 English 10- 9/8-Finish Interlopers and notes 9/9 Interlopers Newspaper Article 9/10-9/11 Benchmarks-Nouns Handout GUM pgs 2-3 9/12-Substitute English 9- 9/8-Period 3-Writing Option 1(36)4- Necklace Handout 9/9-Period 4-Nouns Handout 9/10-Nouns in Context Worksheet 9/11-Survival Paragraph 9/12-Substitute Students in my English classes will use the following materials on a daily basis: three-ringed binder with dividers notebook paper (no spirals) pens/pencils highlighters writing folder with first and last name printed on it independent reading book CLASSROOM POLICIES: Come to class prepared...the teacher is not responsible for providing you with materials. Students will be issued three bathroom passes per quarter. The passes will replenish at the beginning of a new quarter. Extreme emergencies will be determined by the teacher. No food or drinks will be consumed or allowed in the classroom with the exception of water. Electronic devices including but not limited to cellular phones, I-Pods,and digital cameras that interfere with instruction are not permitted. 1st Offense- Student will be asked to put the device away. 2nd Offense- Device will be taken for the remainder of class and/or phone call home. 3rd Offense- Device will be given to adminstration. All students must be in compliance with the Uniform Policy and I.D. Policy. Students will remain in a seat during class unless directed otherwise. RESPECT is a must and will be shown in the classroom at all times. No one has the right to interfere with the teacher's right to teach and every student's right to learn. This includes the property of others. MAKE-UP WORK and ABSENT STUDENTS: Make-up work is only given to students with excused absences...this includes tests and quizzes. It is the responsibility of the student to find out what he/she missed while out. LATE/MISSED ASSIGNMENTS: Late work is not accepted. Homework and classwork will be accounted into the grade on a daily basis. Failure to complete homework or class assignments will result in a zero. CHEATING will not be tolerated and students will be penalized according to the Laurel High School Plagiarism Policy. Long Term Assignments: Students should expect a long-term assignment each quarter. Failure to complete long-term assignments will result in a lowered grade. Journals: Students will be required to keep a journal for assigned writing prompts. Journals will be collected several times per quarter and graded on effort and completeness. Tests/Quizzes: Tests and Quizzes make up 50% of the final grade per Prince Georges County Public Schools. Tests will be announced; however, quizzes may not be announced. Unexcused absences on the day of a test or quiz will result in a zero and lowered grade. Homework is assigned daily and posted in the classroom. For long-term absences please contact me for missed work. Investment of time and desire will ultimately lead to academic success!
