Mrs. Cunningham 8th Grade Science Welcome to all students and parents, We have had a very full study of the hydrosphere, and now we are on to chemistry. We just completed our first Classscape assessment on the Hydrosphere 11-19-09. The assessment shows that our students have been learning, but there are many areas we need revisit. I want to encourage students to use the flashcards developed on this website. They will fine tune their knowledge, and they will be more prepared for the EOG at the end of the year. As we work in chemistry we will be doing some activities that require a lot of supplies. If any parents or students would like to help supply needed items please contact me to find out what we will need in the near future. Thanks in advance for your help. 2st Quarter Syllabus Week 1: Students will begin an exploration of chemistry! We will draw information from Chapter 10 as we engage in different activities to understand matter, chemicals and how they change. Week 2: We will continue our focus on matter. All matter has properties and our students will investigate those properties. Weeks 3 and 4: Students will develop an understanding of the periodic table, and how we can predict some outcomes in experiments before we try the experiment. (We don't always predict correctly!) Weeks 5: We will investigate the Law of Conservation of Matter. Weeks 7, 8, and 9: Students will investigate Chemistry and its affects on us. We will identify the good, bad and the ugly of Chemistry and Humans. Please be aware that students can now read their science textbook on line. To view the Student On line Editions students must go to the website nc8.msscience.com and log in. User Name: NCGR805 Password: 2p8xuswu Go try out some of the great resources they have to offer. As part of the Catawba Team, I am setting up conferences with all the parents of our team members. We would like to schedule a conference with all parents early in the year to make sure everyone is happy and thriving. If you have not put us on your calendar please see me or call the school so we can set you up with a convenient time. We have time between 2 and 3 p.m. to see our parents on most days except Thursdays. Please call soon. Currently all the Rowan-Salisbury Schools are working very hard to improve how we deliver education. We want to make sure we are meeting the needs of all our students. At Knox Middle School administrators, teachers, parents, and students work together to make our community better each day. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Together we can accomplish great things. Betsy Cunningham |
